Melco Mania

If an HDX2 ever appears, I think it’s safe to assume that it will be essentially a Core with a DAC, controlled by the Naim app. Just like the HDX/Unitiserve.

FR, I suspect that isolation mode is the same as direct mode on your N1, it’s just called something different on the N10/100.

@anon91915252 gave above the response. In isolation mode the Melco acts as DHCP and stops any other traffic else than Melco. So you cannot use Naim app or Roon.

Nd555 & Melco n10 very good match, best server I had, better balance more dynamic much better deep bass and most of all wide stage, happy with my decitions

That’s correct, that’s what direct mode does on the N1 too.

not sure you are correct Jason. I could try the direct mode on my melco, still using the Naim app. However the sound quality was crap.
The isolation mode seems to be different from direct mode. In isolation mode you can’t use the Naim app.

Second that. I have about 20k file Size. Works like a dream.

I think there is some confusion in Melcos exact terminology and what it actually does. Melco call it DIRECT MODE but it acts as an isolation mode. Melco acts as DHCP server for the endpoint and all control comes from Melco as you loose all access to endpoint over network.

There are two methods of operation – Network Mode is the default and allows a Tablet connected to the Wi-Fi to control the player as normal. But for ultra-pure music playback DIRECT MODE can be selected – in this case there is no need for any external Ethernet or IT components, and the Melco acts as DHCP server to the Player. Browsing and control is then from the player front panel.

I agree, I don’t own a Melco, but own a Core. Yesterday they were doing construction outside my apartment building, and somehow my internet service was cut off. I was still able to play all the music on my Core, no internet radio, and I don’t use Tidal or Qbuzz.

Heard effect of melco today at acoustica’s Kudos event. Active pair of 300s into 707s, front end nd555, probably a pair of 555drs powering the nd555 (didn’t check), uniticore to melco to nd555. We ran all afternoon with the melco and at the end Geoff removed the melco. It was like somebody had thrown a blanket over the speakers - muffled and a lot lost - though for balance I should mention that the other customer there (Bob) wasn’t convinced

You don`t need internet service when you listen to music, only network connection

I dont understand why do you need uniticore to melco, you just need only one of them.Bob wasnt convinced… I`m totally surprised

Need? Don’t know about that but it sounds a lot better, which is the main thing

normally, as said Meni, it’s Uniticore or Melco, not both. So uniticore to melco to nd555 is strange.
Or perhaps you wanted to say that nd555/ melco was better sounding vs nd555/ uniticore ?

Nope - uniticore to melco to nd555 sounded a lot better than uniticore to nd555

the first time i heard that, a system with both uniticore and melco. What for? they have both the same functions. Sorry, but i don’t understand.
Perhaps @Darkebear could explain, or you ?

Hopefully Darke Bear can. I just know that the melco does something very positive that the uniticore doesn’t manage on its own. Acoustica had a melco event last week that I couldn’t get to where I assume explanations were provided

Just drop the Uniticore, not required.

Though you then need to buy a cd drive to rip into the melco
