Missing Album (very odd)

I have had the same experience twice recently. Have ripped two CDs where metadata could not be found. Manually inputted track information album title and artist. Then the core automatically inserted the name of the last track into the album title. Easily rectified, but yes you are not alone!

This is a recognised bug that Naim are working on.

@S.C had already covered this on a lot of detail, but let me try in my own words so to speak.

So you have a rip that you made ages ago and you never edited it, so the metadata is that which the Core chose. The album title has recently changed and you don’t know why. My suggestion was to take a look at the metadata and see what you can find.

If you look in the Naim app and go to the album in question, then press the three dots icon, you get a list of options and one of those is Edit Metadata. Whether you ever edited it before or not, you can still look at it now and see what it says. This only works for rips that the Core (or an older Naim server) made for itself.

So go ahead and press Edit Metadata and you will see a screen which has all the metadata in use showing. There are a number of different tabs near the top. The default is Rovi, but you will also have MusicBrainz, FreedB and if you had ever edited it, Custom. If you had imported rips from another Naim server, you may also have Legacy.

If you tap the button for Lookup Metadata then the Core will look up all the metadata again and tell you what the answer is. Note that you can also see the last time the Core did a metadata lookup.

So now you should have all the information you need to see where the change of album name came from. You can either go “Humph” and cancel the edit session or you go ahead and change the album title to whatever you prefer. Don’t forget to Save the page (top left hand corner) if you do actually do any edits.

Have fun!

And one thing to add: the thick vertical | to the left hand side of any field indicates a user ‘Edit’ i.e data that has been entered or chosen that is different from the metadata entry that the Core chose on lookup, be that Rovi, MusicBrainz etc….

Hopefully they’re working on a lot more also….! :crossed_fingers:

You might think that, but I couldn’t possibly comment!

It happened again. This is a CD that I ripped that turned out to have no metadata. I did the important editing for title and artist and album cover. I then added in only a few of the tracks planning to complete that later. When I went back two days later, I discovered the now usual substitution of track information for title. As a former programmer, long since retired, I can’t imagine the situation that would produce a bug like this.

The title initially read:

Joan Baez: Diamonds and Rust in the Bullring

Hi Janet This particular issue (of the album title being changed to a track name on a new rip) is a known bug which Naim have replicated and are working on.

Hopefully your earlier issue of the renaming of an older rip will turn out to be another manifestation of the same issue.
