Good evening all,
Yep, that’s what’s happened two albums has disappeared from my NAS, and it’s happened before, but why?
Any ideas ?

What do you mean by disappeared? Are they just missing when viewed from the streamer? Are they visible in other views of the UPnP server? Are they visible if you navigate to the files using a computer?
This my NAS music folder which indicates even DSOTM has gone too although it’s on the Naim app..
Sounds like a meta data/software issue.
That is presumably a folder view, whereas your streamer is presumably looking at tags which are nothing to do with folders and file names.
So the issue is with my NDX2?
If it’s visible on the Naim app, no. Will the streamer play the tracks you can’t see elsewhere?
No..
are you using Asset software? If so, look at the metadata on the missing album tracks and make sure it corresponds to the view you’re looking through in the app. For example. Artist, Album Artist, Artist, etc. If the Album Artist field is properly filled you should see it in the album artist view in the app assuming you’re using Asset server software.
Something as simple as “Pink Floyd” or “pink Floyd” or “Pink Floyd,” will all make a difference so the tracks might still be somewhere on the NAS under a different name.
There are several questions here: are the files still on the NAS drive, if so why don’t they show in that screen photo, if they are still visible via the streamer (that is unclear from posts so far) why don’t they play, and from wherever they have disappeared what may have caused it. Of these the fundamental questions is the first one, and I would focus on confirming that one way or the other before even considering the other aspects.
I am not familiar with the view shown, which appears to be a photo of an Apple screen displaying a file viewing tool called File Station pointing at 192.168.0.11, which I assume is the NAS. However that is not the Apple file viewer Finder with which I am familiar from my Mac Mini, and it is not something with which I am familiar, so I don’t know how it is gathering its data - if it is via metadata as someone suggested then it is not definitive as to file existence. Can you navigate to the NAS via Finder? If you can, and can use the file tree to navigate to the Pink Floyd folder (or folders if there are multiple with different iterations of the name) then that will give a definitive answer as to whether the files are on the NAS. Once that has been established then other questions follow.
Thanks for all your comments.
The picture shows my NAS music folder (Synology Dj218). I’m no techie guy but that’s what I see, and when I rip my CD’s using dB Poweramp, I check the details of the album is correct then I send it via my MacBook to my NAS, then I run Minimserver which does a quick scan and all good normally. I’ll keep trying to find the missing files.
Can you try to see if Finder allows you to navigate to the NAS?
Just to avoid any confusion, Two albums are gone, Meddle & DSOTM Hybrid SACD. The other DSOTM is visible and ‘there’ but not ‘seen’ in finder or anywhere else on the NAS. These CD’s were ripped in WAV no compression a long time ago correctly no issues at all so it’s a ruddy mystery how this is happened.
I did a total rescan on my NAS last night and did a maintenance check and all is well. The NAS has been running for over five years and not had any problems at all. It just sits there and works. The only issue I suppose is I’m getting warnings of low storage but there’s still around 20GB left on the HDD.
Are you saying that you can find the album using the Naim app and play it on the NDX2?
Are you also saying that you cannot find it on the NAS?
If that’s the case, you’ve filed it in a funny place, possibly under a different artist. It’s really important to have a good filing system on the NAS, to make it easy to find albums if the metadata ever needs editing, say to change album art. I see that you have a couple of Beatles Albums at the top level, rather than under Beatles, so it’s likely your filing isn’t as good as it might be. I’ve misfiled albums - you free them across and somehow you drop them in the wrong place. If it’s playable on the NDX it’s there somewhere. Find it and move it.
To find the lost album, just use the Mac file search.
Could the fact they were ripped as WAV mean that they won’t show up due to not having readable META data?
I have some Pink Floyd in my “main” rips, plus some in the “Downloads” location, so all albums do not show in the same location.
I would definitely check for any folders or files called “unknown” which is where unreadable files tend to go.
You might also check on the Naim app for any “unknown” artist or albums.
I’ll check all of the above, and thanks very much for your advice. Since I’ve owned the NDX2 I’ve been using my streamer a lot more and ‘discovered’ a lot too. I’ve got albums on the NAS I never thought I owned.
I’ll report back soonest.. ![]()
