Just checking some pictures I have taken of my 252. I don’t think it matters, but did the original builder get the blue and brown cables in the wrong place?
But would it be the two to the right, or the four to the left?
I would have thought that a quick photo email to the service dept would set your mind at rest.
Perhaps @NeilS can take a look?
Yes I/p 3 tape output channels reversed.
Odd, as it would have failed test like that.
Regards
Neil.
OTOH, in this, albeit crappy photo, the L-R order on the PCB is brown-blue, brown-blue, brown-blue. Pic is from a 2020 thread, entitled “What (& how big) is the difference between 282 and 252?”
That post also shows a 282, which has the same order:
This would of course, facilitate using headphones to listen to Abraxas the right way round, or not, by choosing which socket to plug your Headline into .
Similarly Made In Japan!
What matters is whether the particular pin on the socket is connected to the correct point on the board. Sensibly one would use the same colour wire for all the lefts and the same different colour wire for all the rights, not actually mattering what each colour is, Though I would expect factory consistency at keast in the short term. There was always a possibility that the PCB tracks might have been the other way around for the furthest right of the three pairs, but the other photos someone posted and the response by NeilS confirms that that’s not the case.
Very true, and I’ve looked at plenty of spacecraft wiring harnesses in my time!
I think whilst a " mistake" it works.
The each pin is connected to its correct pin. In the case of the RH pair, the builder has used the wrong colours.
And it has just returned from Salisbury having had its first service a couple of weeks ago.
Some items are more valuable if they have an original mistake - I’d go with that!
That isn’t how it looks to me: your red circled ones has the wires crossing over relative to the other three, so not connected to correct pin, presumably channels reversed.
Agreed, if you compare the wiring on the three DIN sockets, the Blue and the Brown wires are in the identical orientation.
DG…
OK, so Roberto’s 252 on the left, and a 282 on the right I assume that the output section would be similar:
I have convinced myself it is ok and not ok. Im going to blame being jet lagged.
The RH 2 colours are not consistent with my 282. That RH pair are not consistent with the other 2 pairs for certain.
