I apologise if this has been discussed before in this forum. I am looking for the right rca cables from my turntable to my Rega Aria Riia and on down to my Nac-272. So two pairs of cables.
I’m looking at some Mogami 2549 interconnects, or the Mogami W2497 version. Does anyone have experience with these cables for analogue sound, or is it not so important whether it’s one or the other? Thank you in advance
I use 2549 and I am very happy with it.
On my lp12 T cable and my RCA interconnects.
Thank you Skeptikal. I guess it was a lift, what cables did you have before?
Hi Peter63
Believe it or not I had Linn silvers on my Urika and on everything else.
I changed my deck to be MM and discovered that the nearly £400 Linn T Cable for my arm is Mogami 2549.
So i changed all to suit.
RCA Cables from Yannis Tome.
Google his name for website.
Seconded, I have their RCA cables from my TT to phono stage. Silvercord Duo24 IIRC, nicely made, I suspect their Mogami cables would be equally lovely
Hi
Lovely made cables that perform and you get what you pay for not the decoration.
Best I could find on their capacitance is below. 2549 was from the Mogami website, I couldn’t immediately find the same info on their site for 2497, so that’s from another site
2549 76pF/m
2497 67pF/m
If it matters for your cartridge loading. The final value will depend on length obviously, and connector choice
I went Mogami 2549 as I said I found out the best arm cable linn make for their turntable is 2549 with their own arm plug and RCA s
They think it’s good enough for any cartridge.
They have a wide range.
I wasn’t planning on changing the cables inside my project arm. It’s probably a bit too much work for me, do I need it to hear a sound improvement? By the way I play with a MC PU, Ortofon Quintet blue
Hi Peter63
I wasn’t recommending the inside arm wiring.
All linn arms have a socket on the bottom and that’s the arm lead to the phono stage or amp.
It’s all plug and socket.
The Ekos SE-1 arm I have gets supplied with this lead.
The arm costs £4880.00
Ah okay Skeptikal, thank so much
As Skeptical says, you don’t need the internal arm cable updating. I know some folks do it, and some companies offer it as an upgrade for their arms (Origin Live for one tonearm manufacturer)
I noticed a nice improvement when I upgraded the stock RCA lead that came with my Technics for one of Yannis Tome’s without touching the internal cable
MC cartridges are less affected by capacitance, IIUC. Some RCA leads for tonearms are engineered for MC, and have high capacitance, I know Roksan’s HDC-03a is one example (after asking Roksan support). Regardless, I think the Mogami cables should be good for either; it’s not that low capacitance is bad for MC, only that high can be bad for MM. I don’t know why a tonearm/RCA cable engineered for MC might benefit from high capacitance, or if that’s just an artifact of other design decisions on cable structure
…I just checked the email I had on the topic, HDC-03
…designed to maximise noise rejection for use with MC cartridges, such as the Shiraz, which are much less sensitive to load capacitance due to their lower impedance.
So a consequence of a design decision, rather than a designed in characteristic
Interesting.
I was considering using Russ Andrews PJB cable between a Denon DL103R and pre amp. I noticed RA website specified it is only suitable for MC.
Now I know why.
I run Mogami interconnects between everything apart from speakers
Thank you very much all. I think I will go after Mogami rca cables. Thanks
Peter
I didn’t realise that Linn used the Mogami 2549 cable for their arm cable.
DG…
I use Mogami 2549 for DIN IC’s on my NDX and NAT05.
I experimented / tested a long while back with a load of different IC’s and found the Mogami as good if not better than all.
I went for as short as possible to minimise capacitance and wired them ch1 ch2 & the screen as common -ve.
Hi Diggy
Yes I was surprised I’ve went MM with my deck and on fitting the brand new T Kable it has the writing on it Neglex Mogami 2549 Microphone cable.
Sorry it’s a poor picture.
Hi Gthack. Tank you very much for your detailed explanation
No problem, there are others on here who know far more of the theory around capacitance and its effect on cartridges than I! I just know I needed a low capacitance cable to ensure compatibility with MM. Though I run a high output MC currently, I might well go with a MM next.
I bought the Roksan HDC for my old TT setup, on dealer advice. I was running MM at the time and didn’t know any better. Armed with knowledge from this forum I did some digging and found out it was likely not the best combination.
