Just dragged out my Honda Fireblade CBR900RR for a photo I admit it needs a clean but overall it’s in mint condition for an 02 plate and goes like a bat out of hell.
Back in the 90s i knew a copper who owned a Fireblade, he told me every time he had the rear tyre replaced he ordered another rear tyre at the same time, they lasted him just over 2k miles. Hooligan he was
Haha I guess he opted for the softer compound tyre, me a medium compound as I tend to take things steady (must be my age) plus I get 3-4k miles from a medium.
My hooligan bike days was many years ago when I owned LCs and RGs, hopefully grown up since then
I’ve enjoyed reading the contributions to this thread. I used to ride bikes in the early to mid-1980s and the recent mentions of the Yamaha FS1E and Yamaha 250LC brought it all back to me. I never had a FS1E, but I remember it being very popular. My first bike was a Yamaha DT100. I then worked my way up through the following:
Kawasaki GPZ250
Yamaha 350 LC
Suzuki GSX 550ESD.
All were enjoyable in their own way, but my favourite was the Suzuki - it felt like my first grown up bike.
I always hankered after a BMW - if I remember correctly the one I desired was the RS100 (a sports tourer) but they were quite expensive. I’ve just had a look at the BMW website and it’s clear that bikes have come a long way since the 80s (as have the prices).
I finally gave up motorbikes in the late 80s, but I have lots of good memories from those days and do miss from time to time the fantastic sensation of riding a motorcycle.
I started riding in the mid 80’s, my first was a little Honda MBX 80 on which I passed my test, this was followed by a Kawa Gpz305, followed by my zx 750 turbo which got me into all sorts of trouble. Packed it all in early early 90’s for various reasons, keeping hold of my licence for one. Got the bug again in 2007 and bought my lovely low mileage T595 Daytona
This was the last bike that I had. Best bike I owned by a big margin, until someone pulled out in front of me and it was written off. Haven’t had a bike since, but all this good weather is making me yearn for one again!
I used to own a Honda 90 (with electric start, no less) for use on the daily commute during winter. This bike taught me two things; Leg shields are definitely not naff when it starts raining, and on the odd occasion it didn’t rain, it was enjoyable enough to take the long way home. It’s another bike I wish I still had, but (foolishly) let go to relative, who promptly wrecked it. All is not lost though - the Cub is reborn…
!I’ve never ridden a motorbike, and probably never will. Picture is just for a bit of interest, it is the Indian Scout ridden by Burt Munro as made famous by the film The Worlds Fastest Indian with Anthony Hopkins. It resides in a hardware store in Invercargill South Island New Zealand. We were there last year and went specialy to see the bike along with the replica streamlined bodies used in the film. Worth looking up about Burt Munro and the land speed records he set, and check out the film. 2x0190217_214242|281x500
I love that bike !! I had the same model but the following year , the Blue and Black one . I had it for a couple of years and unfortunately it was stolen the 1st night in a new flat as I needed a longer chain which I was to get the next day … I still miss it and you could say it was the last of the proper Fireblade’s .
