Sorry. She was beautiful.
Hope you enjoy your Christmas Tyendra.
Given how good my 1700NE CD/SACD sounds and how stunning your turntable is I’m tempted to replace one of my Rega’s with one.
Will be keeping a watchful eye in the sales.
I love Denon stuff. But it may all be a collector’s item soon. They are in serious financial trouble and the parent company cannot even find a buyer for Denon at any price. They were predicted to not last out 2025 but they managed to scrape through.
It is going up in price at the moment.
It originally sold for £2300, but last November I bought one for £2000 from Peter Tyson, soon after it was available for £1800.
I’ve just checked the prices online. Peter Tyson is £2000, with only 1 left in stock.
AV.com show £1853, but don’t have any in stock.
Richer Sounds show £2200 but appear to have no stock.
Amazon is £2600.
When I decided to buy one I had to wait, as there was no stock in the UK.
If @feeling_zen is correct there is a possibility, there won’t be any stock available in the future.
I’d like to put in a word for the Michell Gyrodec. I’ve had one (the same one) since the 1980s. There are upgrade routes for the arm, cartridge and power supply. The basic deck is built to last, seemingly, for ever. There’s a new version of the Gyrodec just coming out too - I’m not sure if that fits the budget though.
Actually it was a Howlin’ Wolf song!
Why a P8?
Why not another brand?
According to my phone AI, they where bought by Harman (Samsung) in May.
So, they might be shipping more turntables. ![]()
That should do the trick then. I will try to do some harmonica with my mouth.
I think they bought Roon as well? Interesting to see where they’ll take this.
Back in the day I sold my gyrodec as it was outperformed by my cds2 and I bought an LP12 which to my ears sounded much better.
I do miss the looks of the gyrodec, lovely piece of engineering but it simply didn’t sound anywhere near as good as my LP12
Each to their own of course and I am committed to the LP12 now and love its retro looks in fluted form!
Ok so as far as LP12’s go, what am I looking for ideally for a vintage/refurb one? Or am I just better off looking at the Majick spec one ( I can’t go any higher on a new model, don’t have a crazy budget).
cheers in advance.

Like many mine is a little bit of a “trigger’s broom” with parts added over time…. if you have limited experiences probably worth looking at seeing what some dealers have and having a conversation with them.
Lots of upgrades available but even in relatively basic form I found it much better than the Gyro deck I had previously owned.

Already 4 out the topic Lp12 discussions. As always, and in all topics about turntables.
A new Majik LP12 is a very nice package, only the PSU should be replaced immediately with a cheap but much better Minos, see the Cymbiosis website.
(most new customers here in NL order Majik + Lingo4, but that’s steep in price, Minos is fine)
Rega P8 / P10, the LP12, a Technics, Michell, or the new Cyrus, a Vetere, spoilt for choice.
You could always post on the Show us your turntable thread a comment like, “Nice to see an LP12 here. We don’t see many of these on the forum.” ![]()
In fairness the LP12 is a fine deck among the best ever made. And if you don’t subscribe to the Linn constant upgrade mantra, you can build one from old spares and only buy a new plinth quite affordably.
Though LP12s do require considerable care and servicing and the sound is, to me, in line with other Linn sources only moreso - regardless of the cartridge. I had access to a maxed out LP12 in the dem room for years and everyone loved it except me. I thought perhaps I just didn’t like vinyl. Turns out I just didn’t like the LP12.
Given that the OP wants to move away from the Rega to something simpler to maintain and use, and the LP12 is moving the opposite direction from that, suggestions to consider direct drive make a lot of sense. Because already, the Regas are about as low maintenance as a belt drive gets.
Sturdier tonearm with less friction! The RB110 found on the Rega P1 has better bearings than that Technics arm. It’s the entry level so isn’t 1 piece like the better arms but the headshell is fixed so signal path isn’t compromised. Pointless getting into a debate about belt Vs direct drive because we will never agree but Technics owners ( especially in Japan the home of Technics) fit Rega arms onto their TTs.
Those taste delicious and have blue feet!
Hi All,
Just wanted to post an update. I’ve been continuing this conversation among a couple of trusted advisors and I am going out and about to take a listen to a few options.
@feeling_zen I don’t have a problem tinkering, in fact, the move away from Rega encourages that, it’s just that I am not convinced by LP12’s either. As @daddycool says Majik spec LP12’s are great… but immediately change the PSU - to me that sounds a bit bonkers lol
But listening sessions will be held, records will be spun, budgets will be scrutinised, The Boss will be bribed to get the best outcome.
