Mu So 2nd Gen Deactivate Touch Control

Hi All. I searched this topic but couldn’t find anything. I have a MuSo 2nd gen. I only use the app and not the touch panel on the top. Lately my cat has taken to walking on the dresser where it is located and turning it on, usually in the middle of the night! Is there a way to deactivate/turn off the touch sensor on the top so it doesn’t activate with the cat being near/on it?

Thanks so much in advance.

No there isn’t, sadly.

If you still have the packaging that the Muso came in there should be a transparent plastic disk that covered the touch screen. You could try placing that over the screen at night.

Alternatively a glass saucer?

You can also try pausing playback before turning it off.
I now do this as sometimes “someone” has been known to accidentally turn it on (and thus the music) when walking past or looking for something…

Thanks for the quick responses. I really appreciate them. I think I will try a “hybrid” approach of maybe covering the top with something and trying to remember to pause the playback instead of just stopping it by going into Standby.

I guess you could just turn down to 0 so if the cat turns it on the volume would be low

I think I’d get a piece of Perspex cut to the right size and just stick it on top; maybe with little rubber feet so it doesn’t slide.

Is cleaning mode still a thing? Could you use this? I’ve no idea whether you can still operate using the app when in cleaning mode.

Naim discontinued cleaning mode, apparently because feedback was that people didn’t bother with it.
There were occasional posts here from people thinking their Muso was bricked having accidentally turned it on, so perhaps they took a view that it caused more trouble than it was worth.

Which is rather silly all in all….From memory of my gen1 mu-so, it wasn’t so ‘accidental’ to turn on Cleaning Mode, you had to actively do it via the App….

If you think you’ve bricked your mu-so and forgot you had meddled with cleaning mode, then you perhaps are fit for the Darwin’s Awards……!

I would not blame the cat. I have two musos and several times they have both switched themselves on unexpectedly. Didn’t happen before the fw update. I have a suspicion that it reacts to an internet drop out.
I turn the volume down when done listening.

Thanks for the idea but, no, this was clearly the cat. I woke up to the music to see him standing on the MuSo looking right at me

Harsh & drastic solution… Get rid of the cat. Problem solved😁

I’m also experiencing the same issue with our cat. Would be great if Naim could offer a solution for this problem.

Unfortunately I’m going to have to return the Mu-so 2 as not being able to disable the proximately on control is a deal breaker for us with our cat.

There is a very simple solution, order a bespoke perspex cover.
The issue was raised here on the forum for tts and rcm.

The suggestion assumes the manufacturers can bespoke an inverted ‘u’ design, so that when placed over the Muso, the top and sides are perspex and the front and rear are open.

Since the idea has been offered before, the very first item in search brings up this thread, there may have been others.

ps my Muso2 has never come to life unprompted, ditto Qb2, which I recently moved on when an opportunity arose, in anticipation eventually, of a Qb3.

There is a lot to consider with the plastic cover. What dimensions? Cost? How high does it need to be? Will it actually work? Has anyone done this successfully? Will it look ugly and spoil the nice aesthetics of the Naim unit?

It’s just too much to consider tbh. I wouldn’t describe it as a simple solution.

Shame as the Mu-so 2 looks and sounds great, it’s a superb bit of kit. Sad to see it go.

There are many methods of cat prevention that can be employed.

Some are free.
