Hello! I know there have been a number of posts regarding problems with the multiroom playback function stopping after some time. I believe all of the posts related to systems where at least one player relied on WiFi.
My two players (NDX-2 and Nova) are each connected to my network via ethernet (no long runs in the Cat6 cable). Each player works flawlessly when streaming by itself. Once I toggle on multiroom, everything works for 1-2 hours max. The device I added will then drop. It does not matter which device I start with – the added device will subsequently drop and cannot be added back.
If I unplug and do I hard reboot, it the multiroom will once again work…but will drop again after 1-2 hours.
I have 1GB internet via fiber optic with an eero mesh network. This has only been an issue for the past year or so. Any thoughts?
It is driving me nuts, I use ethernet for my NDS and one Muso, the other two Musos are WiFi. The Muso connected by ethernet is 2nd generation and drops just as regularly. However the musos sometimes drop for a fraction of a second to give a doppler effect, sometimes for good.
The WiFi Musos have their own network and the signal is excellent.
These problems do not manifest with other connected devices.
Just to be clear, as Naim describes multiroom, the streamer which is the starting point of multiroom is called the ‘master’ and the additional streamers are termed ‘client’.
I am a regular user of multiroom and I have observed an occasional issue from time to time.
Worth @JazzLover and @Davidr providing more specific details. What versions on each streamer - please bear in mind, “the latest” is not a version number?
Additionally make of router and control point with app version and OS version. Please clarify if “hard wired” means directly back to the router, rather than using a mesh unit.
Just re-reading your posts, does the multiroom drop if you power off the streamers, then power down and restart your router, before restarting the streamers say ten minutes later. Source also, playlist from locally stored music or streamed, or perhaps iRadio.
As much as possible, but concise information would be useful, since I have previously raised with support and can link this thread if necessary. (As a beta tester I can’t go into details unfortunately).
Thank you for your help! As I’ve noted before, the Naim community and this forum in particular makes the whole experience of enjoying music that much better. I’m most appreciative of this community and hope to be a worthy contributor.
I’m in the U.S. and have Verizon Fios (1GB). The specific details you requested are further below. The service comes into the house via the ONT, which is then connected to the Fios Router. That router is then connected (via Cat 6E) to the main Eero mesh router, which in turn is connected to a Netgear ethernet switch. The NDX 2 and the Nova are each connected to the Netgear switch via Cat 6E. All of the equipment is on the same side of the house with only 1 floor separation, so the runs are modest in length.
I shut everything down and rebooted following the suggested sequence (including waiting times). I restarted the streamers and used the NDX 2 to stream Classic FM and then added the Nova as a client using the NDX 2 remote to access the multiroom function. It worked for about 30 minutes, but then then Nova dropped.
The NDX 2 continued to play without issue; however, when I used its remote to access the multiroom function, the Nova no longer appears as an option.
Here are the details as requested:
NDX 2:
Serial No. 487140
Firmware Version 3.10.1(5617)
App Version 7.3 (12000)
OS Version 3.10.1.2226
Nova:
Serial No. 496759
Firmware Version 3.10.1(5617)
App Version 7.3 (12000)
OS Version 3.10.1.2226
Router: Motorola / Verizon Quantum Gateway Fios-G1100 / Ethernet supports speeds up to 1000 Mbps
Lots of info, so let’s see.
Have you tried local music - on a usb stick plugged in to the master - does same occur?
App is likely iOS, but any reason to use remote v app?
I started m-room with NSC222 as master and Nova as client just as I previously posted, playing RP-Mellow stream. Still playing!
The first starting point is going to have to be your network. Try a search on the forum for IGMP snooping and then see if your router can allow you to adjust. Next step is to wire direct to the first router if you can.
You mention two different routers, are both issuing IP addresses? If so you will have a double NAT situation, which isn’t appropriate for stability and is not recommended.
It was an issue with NC kit to Nova that I experienced, hence my suggestion of troubleshooting at your end. I will try my ND streamer to Nova later today.
