Music server to occasionally play FLAC files

My NAS is a notional 15w rating

My Roon Nucleus and nas (just used as backup for the Nucleus these days) live in the ‘utility room’ of my home where all the room ethernet connections terminate, the fibre enters the home, and the ISP’s router is located. Well out of sight, mind, and earshot.

Really the nas could live anywhere in the home so long as it has a network connection.

The QNAP TS-133 and WD Red SSD were delivered yesterday. The installation was smooth sailing (learned lots of QNAP terminology on the way…) and I placed it in a cupboard, right next to the router of my ISP. I copied all the FLAC files to the NAS and than installed Asset UPnP (the licensed version). That was also smooth sailing.

So, now I am listening to my ripped CD’s streamed from the NAS. Nice and convenient.

I have been using the QNAP NAS with Asset UPnP for a while now and it is working just fine. Everything is ripped, stored on the NAS and back-up on USB drives. I am actually a bit surprised about how good FLAC rips of my CD’s sound on the ND5XS2.
