I recently bought a second handed ND555 from my dealer (young product) , but it stops with styreaming often, both radio and Qobuz streaming. Playing from USB is perfect good.
What van be the cause? should it be repaired?
Thanks for any suggestion
How is your ND555 connected to your network? A view of your full network setup may help further.
I presume you have the latest firmware installed?
Its wired, Ethernet cable connected via power lines to my main router. My previous NDX 2 worked fine with that. I have ADSL /VSL, approx 50 Mb/s IP4 / IP6 connection.
Latest update version 3.10
I found a strange setting in the app: "time to stand-by was set to 20 min. I just changed that to āneverā Perhaps that is an issue???
Talk to the dealer.
I will. my dealer will visit me tomorrow
I donāt think it is anything to do with the standby settings. What do you mean by saying the ND555 is connected with Ethernet cable āvia power lineā to router? If you are connecting ethernet through the house electrical power system then that could be a problem. Otherwise you could try rebooting the router and then the ND555 - see here for resetting the streamer:
https://www.naimaudio.com/help/restoring-nd555-to-factory-settings
Power lines are generally a no-no for hifi. I think you would need to find a way around that - perhaps go WiFi, or hardwire a cable from your router perhaps by going outside the ouse if necessary. If possible you could also get a long Ethernet cable to your router run loosely just to test that it works
It was never a problem: the Devolo powerlines worked well with all my equipments so far, also with the NDX 2; why should 555 behave different? But a recent software update of Dutch KPN of my main router may be an issue I will, again, reset all routers . A reset of the 555 seems sensible too
Furthermore, it plays well from my NAS using the same Ethernet construction. So powerlines are good
I would have though your results for your NDX2 would be the same as the 555, so a reset as you say would be a good option to try
Just one thoughtā¦ can you change Ethernet cable and switch you are connecting to.
It is possible though unlikely the link auto negotiation (802.3u) is failing due to an incompatibility ā¦ and causing duplex mis match.
Usually unusual in consumer but not so unusual in industrial/commercial. Worth trying.
As a temporary solution, I used power lines and had exactly the same stuttering. They were fine with low resolution up to CD rip 16bit but anything above that and it started to randomly drop out.
Once the power lines were taken out of the equation and I went fully wired to the router it was absolutely fine.
Nonsense, I can still play highres 192kb/s 24-bit from my NAS.
Thanks. May change Ethernet cable as last option, no switch involved. First a factory reset and so to try.
Agree, this afternoon my dealer will come to help with (Factory)reset and so on
so is it connecting to the switch ports on a router?
if so can you insert a switch as temporary measure using ethernet between router and switch and switch and streamer
Confused by the statement ethernet via your power lines?
If this is networking over power lines - that is not pure ethernet and will often resolve to a type of half duplex ethernet bridge and this will confuse the streamer traffic optimisation - which is not good for streaming and makes my link layer self configuration configuration moot. You canāt send ethernet over mains cable. If you canāt use ethernet you will be better using WLAN - or a WLAN bridge. Modern WLAN tech has effectively obsoleted PoE now. Our home network demands have out frown the capability of many PoE devices.
You may find the actual traffic for the local NAS over PoE is very messy and it relies on the streamer buffer to compensate. This is less likely to work well with cloud streaming over the internet and cause dropouts etc.
Simon - a number of us have pointed out the limitations of his āethernetā set up but he is convinced that is not the issue, so I think itās best to stop giving advice and just let him sort it out with his dealer.
agh ok - but it is 99% likely to be the issue. That is old fashioned tech that was only ever suitable for really basic uses. Superseded now. Modern WLAN or ethernet is the way to go and what Naim streamers expect and designed to work with.
Quite - I began by using the power lines system domestically and very soon discovered for myself, confirmed by internet resources, that it was a waste of time and money.
They also create a ridiculous amount of RF noise on the mains and in the space around cables and in your house. In fact the noise is likely to be so high that regulations require that certain ranges of frequencies to be blocked out in PoE products so as not to cause interference to protected radio services!
