After having my Supernait and HiCap recapped. It was time to refurbish my Quad ESL63 speakers. They are just back and are more less new. With all the panels, the foil and most of the electronics replaced by new parts. They sound like new and are ready for another forty years of listening pleasure. Assuming that I am still here at my 104th birthday.
Looks great. I have 2805s and one day i will have to refurb them. Did you have Quad do it? Did they use the new 2812x panels?
It was done by a small company in the south of the Netherlands.
Brilliant.
I too have a pair of ESL 63-s, paired with NAC72 + NAP250 (with a Quad mod). They were serviced some 10 years ag or so.
Currently sitting dormant in my home office, as I work remotely looking after my Dad.
They look fantastic.
Your post brings back nice memories of working in hi-fi retail in London in 1990/91. We sold loads of ESL63s with either 34/306 or 34/606 if the buyer had a bigger room. Often there was an FM4 too.
Thanks for posting.
And if they had smaller rooms they had Spendor LS3/5as (usually in walnut) instead.
Looks great. I had them back in the day, but I missed some bass. They are fantastic speakers, but unfortunately they have their limitations. If I ever move to a bigger house, it would be great to have a room for them.
In the shop we solved it with a Celestion SL6000 subwoofer set, where each ESL63 stood on top of one of the subs. It all looked a bit ‘hi-fi show’ though. Great sound but you wouldn’t want that kind of look at home.
Yes, I remember some pictures of it. Some also tried with REL subwoofer
These days the bass can be enhanced with a Rel. they integrate very well.
Beautiful speakers! ![]()
