I don’t have one, i have a porsche.
Well it’s certainly in lot’s of bit’s now.
It was a right mess inside, very dirty, and even some damp damage.
But my mate Vic, is pulling it apart and going through it all.
It needs a far few caps as they are over 20% out.
New rca plugs as well just look at them below.
Obviously all the switches and pots are being stripped down, cleaned or just replaced.
Plus the normal de grease and then re grease.
But lots off new parts ordered.
But this does give a very good insight to what is needed with these old machines.
Even if they work, they are more than likely in a very poor stat inside.
But with the right guy on the job, things can be turned round.
After the boards got cleaned, just new component’s yet to be fitted.
This is just the audio side, many more boards to do yet.
Lot’s off new bit’s all ordered now.
Even getting a quote on getting the lower pannel re printed, as it has a few bit’s missing and once done it would be very much mint.
Also getting 3 nice red metal reels, with philips n4522 printed on them, very cool looking.
But the analogue side is getting a complete overview, with all new caps, amongst other things.
It looks a very impressive machine.
Who’s is the Sony ES CD player? I’ve always liked the look of those.
I think that’s Dunc’s as well
I think that’s the original thread ^^
Lovely looking machine 8)
It is.
I use it digital out to my vivaldi upsampler.
I can then enjoy it with many different levels of upsampling or just leave it at standard cd level.
It works very well as a transport, as the built-in dac isn’t that great, it’s a bit dark in it’s presentation and lacking somewhat.
But as said using a much better dac, certainly breathes new life into it.
Cheers dunc
Well, progress is certainly coming along nicely. There are a few small issues to deal with still on the audio boards/section, but almost there.
My mate vic is doing a Stella job on it.
I also managed to pick up some nice 10.5-inch metal reels, plus 7 inch with some very old recordings from the early 80s. From the bbc, broadcast over FM, and its live concert recordings from the likes of OMD, howard jones, thomas dolby, Alison moyet, etc, etc.
Over 100 hours worth, and a bargin price.
I just wanted the metal reels, but certainly can’t get rid of these recordings as you will never find it, as i tried.
Also treated myself to something very special for my reel to reel, and if you come to the maverick show next sunday you will get to see and hear this special thing i have bought.
Unfortunately my reel to reel won’t be ready for the show, but the exact same model, my mate vic owns will be there, and being used at certain times throughout the day.
Cheers dunc
The only thing crazy would have been to not buy it. Congratulations!
Borrowed an old machine from my mate vic.
This is a 4 track machine. So I’m listening to these 40 plus year old recordings from the bbc.
At the same time recording them on my elcaset so i can play them again once the 4 track goes back.
So it’s going to be a quite a few hour’s ahead doing these. But great fun doing it, plus listening to these groups from back in the day.
They are all live recordings that the bbc did back in the day, fantastic stuff
Cheers dunc
Revox decided to unveil the new B77 Mklll.
I hardly use mine these days but am wondering who’s going to invest €15k on it when you can get a fully serviced top notch MK2 for a couple of grand.
Quite a few new reel to reel machines about these day’s, and one more to add.
It’s nice but i liked the yello one more
I noticed the other day that my brother still has dad’s Revox A77 sitting in his bookcase/sideboard. I know it hasn’t been used for at least 20 years and dad wouldn’t have used that much in his time either. Not sure whether to just ignore it or suggest to him that he could monetise it. He is a bit of a hoarder, so probably just ignoring it is the smart answer I suspect.
My mate Vic has been working his magic a bit more today.
The audio boards are all done, just one switch to fix.
So he started on the rest, and what a mess. I am surprised it worked as well as it did.
Anyway take a look at the pic’s, but obviously these bit’s will be getting the full works done to them, just like the audio boards have.
After the first stage clean up.
Obviously lot’s more to do, but it’s getting better and better, and will soon be working as well as it can do, and should be good for a few more year’s i hope.
On another note
Hopefully we will have
YELLO, album Stella, reel to reel at the show.
As I went mad and ordered the twin reel box set, I just hope it turns up in time.
I’m always very sceptical when people tell me they have such and such a recording of a musician or band on R2R tape specially when the original work was never release on R2R medium. Most of them seem be re-release and originate in some Easter European country.
May I ask you what’s the origin your Yello tape?
Do a serch on the web.
The tape is from Boris blank himself. Its easy to find.
Thanks. I did not know about it. Better be good for the price.
There are some many dodgy sellers with digital transfers out there that apart from TapeProject you never know the sources of these releases.
There are indeed.
The price is nasty, but also in keeping with others like it.
The reel 2 reel game is certainly not for the lighthearted. It might be the pin up in the hifi world, but like most models it’s an expensive one to keep.
I also hope it’s worth it, but as i like yello, and have no other tapes, i decided to treat myself. The scary thing is, the tape cost more than the machine.
