Nac 252 to Superline

Hi Hifi Hobbists,

I’ve recently upgraded to a Nac 252 and trying to Connect my Superline to the Auxiliary 2 Power socket on the Nac 252. There is nothing in the manual advising me of which Cable to use. After searching google it says a 5 pin din is needed. However the pin configuration is completely different to a 5 pin din.

Could anyone kindly advise as I need to source the appropriate cable.

How to identify SNAICs and Interconnects

You need a Snaic5 with 240 degree spacing.

The faq should help.

Naim part number could well be 00-010-0063 and retail price is £199.

Often sold on the usual auction site but Naim don’t approve of the use of 3rd party imitations.

Just make sure whatever you get is described as 5 pin and 240 degree.

Make sure you only use a genuine NAIM SNAIC5. The SNAIC carries both DC voltage power the Superline and also signal back the other way so it’s a very neat and effective connection ensuring a close common ground. See the FAQ topics on here for more info.

My initial thought to your question was, “Well, of course the manual answers this.”

But actually, it doesn’t. Well, not directly.

The SL manual is at best correct, but still unclear. Look at p4, and it does show how to connect the 252’s SuperCap to the SuperLine. Or does it? It only shows the use of a Burndy from the SC and assumes a dedicated supply to the SL. What it fails to mention is that a SNAIC can also be used with the SL and Aux2 of your 252. For this, the image above on p4 shows a 240-degree 5-to-5-pin DIN between the SL and HighCap. This is as close as it gets in the SL manual.

In my 252 manual from the early 2000s, p10 mentions “input 6 (alternative)” and shows a 240-degree 5-pin DIN connection. Again, not really clear, but the bottom corner of p11 does show a 240 5-to-5-pin DIN connection cable. But this os more to do with the snaic between SC and 252

There is no doubt this could have been clearer.

282 and 202 are the same.

In my 252 manual from the early 2000s

The Superline was introduced -2008, so that might be the reason

But the 252 manual refers to both Stageline and Prefix whose connection arrangements via snaic are similar to Superline.

Connections to those from a 252, 282 etc are equally unclear.

The Prefix Snaic can’t be removed from the Prefix,
so there are no options for that one.

The 252 was supplied with a suitable SNAIC5 cable and a Burndy cable for connection to the Supercap. If you didn’t get them (and the remote control) ask the seller to provide them.
