NAC 272 internet radio useless after firmware upgrade

Hi All
the system I use in the dining room is a NAC 272 and NAP 300DR which until recently was an absolute pleasure. I upgraded the firmware and now it is not. A lot of listening was internet radio, but since the upgrade it is constantly dropping out with different screens:^

  • initialising input
  • press play to connect
  • buffer empty

I have it connected to an orbi mesh system with a 1 meter CAT 7 ethernet cable. I have done the 272 factory reset and tried turning off the 272 and the router…
All other devices in my house work perfectly. I was planning to update my NDS in my main system, but this make me wonder about Naim updates.
Does Naim have a solution for this?
thanks
Chris

There are three pinned topics around firmware and internet radio at the top of the streaming section of the forum. I’d start with those as radio service has changed, and vtuner experienced an outage

That’s why I installed the new firmware…

Did you factory reset the streamer after the update?
If you did, and it still doesn’t work, try running the update again.

Have you deleted your old presets? They were linked to vTuner which is no longer available in Naim streamers.
After having deleted the old presets make a new search of your favourite radio.

I have a 272 - after reset and upgrade my radio has started doing similar. I’m just hoping that the next much discussed upgrade (assuming there’s a version for legacy products) will sort this. If not - anyone at Naim like to comment? I think I’ve done everything I’m supposed to.

If you want input from Naim you should contact their support guys via phone or email.

Just wondering if others had the same issue

I know someone with a 272 and they have updated the FW OK.
Plus a lot of 272 owners on the forum, and if they had problems I would have expected them to have been posting about it when the FW was first released in February.

Have you done a complete system power cycle ??? …
… switch off everything - router - 272 - NAS - control point (s.phone/tablet)
Be sure the router is offline for at least 5 mins to be sure your ISP logs it as off
Restart router first and let it completely finish its restart proceadure.
Restart 272, then NAS and finally the control point.

If that doesn’t fix it I would try reinstalling the FW again ..
First be sure all old presets are deleted and in light of your problems I would also do a factory reset, then install FW.

Good Luck

Hopefully as the OP you will be back @ChrisLW to follow up.

If you are having issues, the best advice is to reinstall the firmware, by using a patch cable between your router and the NAC 272; nothing fancy needed. That may fix the issue.

If you intend to stick with the 272 - good kit, then time to consider a wired connection.
Unless living in rented, if you have lighting, heating or plumbing installed, a competent sparky can most likely easily install, a few runs of cat5 cabling. A few for direct NAC-272 connection and one or two wired WAPs. Netgear Orbi does seem occasionally to cause issues.
Long ago I replaced my Netgear WAPs in favour of Ubiquiti ones - result, seamless connections across two buildings in difficult conditions.

The 272 upgrade went well for me, so it can be done. It is necessary to delete the existing presets and stop the running internet radio stream before starting the new internet radio service. Following the written instructions for the firmware update is a must. The newly installed firmware version will be 4.9.40. Then update the focal-naim app to the latest version (7.4.1).
