I will have these two arriving at some point this morning, so just wanted to check that i have got my head around connecting them right. I already have a HiCap DR to power the 282 and the leads.
NAPSC to 282 input
5 pin black lead from 282 Upgrade 1 to socket 4 on HiCap
4 pin from socket 3 on HiCap to XLR on 250 DR
I’m hoping you good peeps can confirm that is correct ?

So, i have got it right then
Having had a bad interconnect many years ago, I always take care to remember the switch-on/off sequences now, just in case.

You have a cracking amplifier to look forward to. Should be like rediscovering your music collection - enjoy.
The power amp is here
The 282 should be here between 1 and 2…getting very excited now.
I have a 282 / 250 DR / HCDR together with a poorly CDX 2 ( currently with Naim ) / XPS DR and Rega P6 with Wilson Benesch Arcs.
I love the set up and I’m sure that you will enjoy the 282/250 combo as well .
Good luck
…enjoy the upgrade. I believe you going to enjoy the music when you have it all up and running! Life is Sweet!
I did have a HiCap DR on my SN 2 and first added the NAC 282 preamp and thought it was a fantastic upgrade. A few months later I traded in my SN 2 towards a 250DR and found that to be a wonderful uplift in sound as well. When they discontinued the SuperCap DR and had them available at a fabulous discount I traded in my HiCap DR for the SuperCap and once again a lovely upgrade.
I had these connected up and running yesterday afternoon. Wow, a big big step up from my SN2.
Of course both pre and amp were cold, but still sounded fantastic. I fully expect things to get even better over the course of the next few days. Going to borrow a friends HiCap DR to have a listen to what it sounds like with two rather than one.
Great news.
As someone with the same amplifier and PSU set up I’d be extremely interested to hear from you when you’ve tried 2 HCDRs in the set up.
I went from a TPPS (which was crap) to a single HCDR then 2 weeks after, to 2x HCDR. Going for Naim was a revelation, everything fell into place and music was enjoyable again, not to mention instruments sounded natural. Adding a second HCDR improved things a bit but it wasn’t a wow moment. It might take a while for both units to properly bed in, before I can remove one from the chain and see exactly what a second unit brings.
On the other hand, going for a SCDR on the 282 has always had people divided, some saying it sounds edgy and forced, while others praising the uplift.
From a connectivity perspective, a SC is simpler. Only one path to earth for the 282 and you don’t have to worry about getting two matched HiCaps. And if a 252 comes your way, the change is simpler.
Sonicly I think the improvement on bass definition and front to back imagine is a lot better with the SuperCap. But on the other hand it’s so much more money, saying it is great value for money on a 282 is difficult. I’m really happy with my 282/SCdr. But I was also really happy when it was powered by a single HCdr.
While the performance is superb, with a Naim phonostage and the HCdr on that, you end up with a preamp that is split over 5 boxes (282/StageLine/NAPSC/HCdr/SCdr) and needs 3 plug sockets. Using a pair of HiCaps instead of a SuperCap would take that to a 6 box preamp which is just getting silly. No one should have to answer the question, “Which one is the preamp?” with , “It’s on those three shelves.”
Totally agree, the 282 sounds great but is the worst offender for box count and the main reason I moved on.
I borrowed my friends HiCap DR yesterday to run alongside my own to the 282.
To be honest there was a slight difference but certainly not enough of a difference to make me want to rush out a buy another one myself.
The next big upgrade for me will come in a few weeks time, a pair of Focal Sopra N2’s in place of my current Spendor A9’s.
Going from 282 to 552 was the only Naim upgrade I’ve made that actually reduced the box count.
You can pretty easily acquire a used Supercap DR for around $3,500 now. Buying two HiCap DRs doesn’t make sense considering the secondary market cost is so close to a Supercap DR.
If i needed 2 HiCap DR’s that would be correct. But i already have 1 anyway. That said, i have no intention to buy another one now that i have heard the 282 with 2 HiCap DR’s.
I do however have every intention to get a pair of Sopra N2’s installed in a few weeks time and then make a decision on a Supercap DR.
Hi Dan, I went for a preowned SC for my 282, and it was big improvement in SQ, but only once I dressed the cables properly - interconnects and mains cables kept as separate as possible. At first I didn’t take care with such cable dressing and the treble just sounded so screechy it was impossible for me to enjoy the obvious clarity in the rest of the sound. Best wishes Amer
