NAC 282 and ND5 XS2

I am getting quite excited about the imminent arrival of a sealed box ND5 XS2 to join my NAC 282/NAP250DR (+LP 12 etc.). This will be replacing my Superuniti, a device I had to stop using years ago as its ‘pre - out’ just didn’t do justice as soon as the 250DR was hooked up.

Suddenly I realise that I haven’t the faintest idea about how I am to connect the ND5 XS2 to the 282. What might the options be, pros and cons etc.?

I still have 2 weeks till my sister arrives from the UK with the goodies and if any ‘special’ cables/interconnects are required, now’s the time . . .

I’d appreciate some help pointing me in the right direction, or better.

It comes with a Naim Din to Din which is more than up to the task. Ran mine with one the whole time I had it on the 202/200 & the 282/300.

Thanks, QuickSticks, that’s a relief, though I believe some system automation is available here.

Should also be in the box.
Little black phono to 3.5 jack lead.

You need a system automation cable if you want to use the Naim app to control the preamp volume and input selection. It’s just a mono cable with a 3.5mm jack plug on one and (for the ND5XS2) and an RCA plug on the other end.

If you’re happy to use the preamp remote control you don’t need system automation.

Hi Chris,

I think I’d like to give the system automation a shot, thanks for the input.

Rajeev.

You should be able to get hold of a suitable cable locally. Nothing fancy, so it should be cheap.

Don’t they come in the box Chris?
I could have sworn mine came with one, but I might be thinking of the NDX2…

No, you need to buy one, although whey are very cheap and when I bought my 282 the dealer just gave me a spare one he had.

As @QuickSticks said, you can easily start with the standard DIN to DIN cable. Later you can try different interconnects if you ever fancy it. I think it’s worth to do that but only when you will get used to the ND5 XS2, so give it some time, relax and enjoy music!

I hope your got a Hicap for the 282.

Would assume they already have powwr for the 282 if it’s an existing system component.

the “or better” pathway is to attach the ND5xs2 (via DC1 digital BNC) to an nDAC/PS555DR , which is then connected din-to-din to your NAC.

I have nick-naimed this in the Naim App as my “NDdac555” which is very sweet & musical that I listen to every day.

Yes, have been thinking along those lines for a long time now, either that or an NDS DAC section/stage.

Infact looking out for a suitable Supercap or second Hicap. As @Blacknote indicated, as long as I could start enjoying the music right away.

Took a while to get hold of the correct paddle/DIN plug cover and a half , somehow got left out of the box. eBay Auction purchase of the slightly ghastly looking grey-ish anniversary version of the (promised and beautifully running) 282. Solved all issues that the SuperUniti Pre-out couldn’t cope with. NAIM/Focal anniversary.
