I am getting quite excited about the imminent arrival of a sealed box ND5 XS2 to join my NAC 282/NAP250DR (+LP 12 etc.). This will be replacing my Superuniti, a device I had to stop using years ago as its ‘pre - out’ just didn’t do justice as soon as the 250DR was hooked up.
Suddenly I realise that I haven’t the faintest idea about how I am to connect the ND5 XS2 to the 282. What might the options be, pros and cons etc.?
I still have 2 weeks till my sister arrives from the UK with the goodies and if any ‘special’ cables/interconnects are required, now’s the time . . .
I’d appreciate some help pointing me in the right direction, or better.
You need a system automation cable if you want to use the Naim app to control the preamp volume and input selection. It’s just a mono cable with a 3.5mm jack plug on one and (for the ND5XS2) and an RCA plug on the other end.
If you’re happy to use the preamp remote control you don’t need system automation.
As @QuickSticks said, you can easily start with the standard DIN to DIN cable. Later you can try different interconnects if you ever fancy it. I think it’s worth to do that but only when you will get used to the ND5 XS2, so give it some time, relax and enjoy music!
Took a while to get hold of the correct paddle/DIN plug cover and a half , somehow got left out of the box. eBay Auction purchase of the slightly ghastly looking grey-ish anniversary version of the (promised and beautifully running) 282. Solved all issues that the SuperUniti Pre-out couldn’t cope with. NAIM/Focal anniversary.
