Nac 282

I’d wondered the same thing!

You guys across the pond aren’t that bad either.

If I recall correctly, there was some extreme litigation between Linn & Naim over some Speaker Cable. Linn’s K-20 & Naim’s NAC A4.

Virtually the same cable maybe a minor difference in the outer skin. In any event, Naim came out what it’s super cable which had a slightly brighter tone Nac A5!

Is it possible to purchase Nac A4 today?

I just purchased some Linn K-20 to match the wiring in the Briks crossover! Enabling the Briks to be Tri-Amped until the Activation can be completed.

PS. I think Linn filed a suit! LOL☺

K20 was grey. A4 was black. Difference ends there.

No A4 is not around anymore. The answer to that lover’s tiff was to develop A5 which was better!

Though I used A4 on one of my old Linn systems.

Secrethills,

I had an 82 and loved it but would not have moved to a 282. I would expect very little difference. If your system sounds good I would either stick or look at a 52 or 252. I went the 252 route and have loved it for 15 years.

Stu

Stu thanks for your comments - my 82 is in good condition and sounds fine although it is many years old. I have the chance of obtaining a recent Nac 82 at a really competitive price but I’m tempted to follow the advice of several forum members and wait until I can afford a 252

My understanding was that the dispute was actually between Naim and BICC, who made NACA4 for them, when they discovered that BICC had started selling the Naim designed cable to Linn without their permission. I don’t know the full details of how the issue was resolved, but I don’t see that it could be called ‘extreme’. Naim had been wronged, BICC admitted it, they reached an agreement. All pretty standard stuff under the circumstances, I would think.

Yes, the age of information, I googled up that BICC was supplying both companies back in the day when Linn handled the front and rear whilst Naim’s 135s were feeding the Briks. The Zen Mastered tagged it nicely, a ‘lovers’ tiff’! Wow, my vocabulary is expanding exponentially! In any event, the newer amps, from what I read like the coat hanger wire! My situation is little unique:

282>HCDR>3 x 250.2> 6 x NACA4> Brik’s XO which is tri-wired with the exact Gray K-20/NacA4! Just makes sense to keep the wire consistent within my system.

Don’t sound bad, but I haven’t lived with a 552/500 wired up with SL technology, which cost more than my 282/HCDR and CDX2 (my whole system)LOL☺!

OH WELL, back to the Music, The Why!

Thanks for wiring me up!

Nice hearing from you Chris!

Take care!

Why is every pic of Isobarik passive crossovers treated like hifi porn?

I guess when you multiply everything by 3 the cost of SL cables is frightening… even NACA5 looks pretty expensive, and I don’t think I could handle the mess! So I can see why you’ve stuck with NACA4.
