My 135s and Supercap are due a service. I was considering what the pros and cons (if any) might be of having the Olive Supercap converted to DR.
Anybody had any experience of this update?
Not sure it can be done.
Naim haven’t offerred a DR upgrade service for several years now, and even when they did an olive SCap (or indeed any olive components) couldn’t have been converted anyway.
Apart from that…

I have a Supercap DR on my Nac 52 and it sounds great. More lively than the olive Supercap in my active system. Too bad Naim cannot provide the DR upgrade any longer.
A good recapped and if necessarily refreshed SC is still a great improvement on its own.
I think olive SC doesn’t need DR.

Indeed, the DR upgrade was only available for the Classic range. And that has also stopped. There are no more upgrades to be had.
There were a very small number of early Classic components in Olive cases (on special request) and those could have been eligible but they were never true Olive range.
Bear in mind that non DR components do use discrete regulation. They just don’t use Naim’s custom designed DR units. The quality of the DC output on serviced and recapped power supplies is still superb.

While the Olive Supercap sounds fab with a Nac 52, the SC DR is significantly better. Adds a little something to the presentation. YMMV.
I can never understand why any naim component would not sound better with a better regulated power supply. You’ll get those that say a 52 was intended to have a non- DR psu and it was “ tuned” that way. But im sure if a SCDR had been available it would have been sold that way.
My 72 certainly sounded great when it was fed with DR’d power supplies and preferable to the olive HCs. After all, write down what an ideal power supply should do, and the DR is closer to that ideal.

DR Power supply’s sound very different from non DR,that’s why Olive gear sounds to thin and not balanced ,the same goes with the nDac .
