It shouldn’t do, but it would probably make it far to close to the statement s1.
But there’s no getting away from how nice the class A sounds in the vitus, especially in the sia025 and sia030.
I would also agree that the sbl’s are probably not the best speakers to pair up with vitus, but then the same would probably be said with my titan 808’s.
They tend to be used with speakers that can show off the huge sound stage you can get.
1 vs 6 actually, the unit I tried had the built in Streamer/DAC, against my NDS. It was a very close and there were some areas where I preferred the RI 101 - for instance I thought it was more revealing. However, in the end I decided it wasn’t for me. It was a tough call.. it’s a lovely amp.
I have the Streamer/DAC module too and have been underwhelmed by it.
As I had no use for it I would have preferred not to have it but was persuaded the amp is more resaleable with it. I checked directly with Vitus whether it would affect analogue performance when not in use. They said no but that has not been my experience. I’ve found (quite by chance) the streamer/DAC significantly undermines the SQ - which a CAD USB ground control device in the USB dongle socket has elevated to fabulous.
So if you’ve only heard the amplifier with the streamer/DAC as supplied by Vitus I don’t think you’ve heard what it is truly capable of.
That’s interesting. It was a while ago and my recollection has faded a bit. I certainly listened to the Streamer/DAC and remember being quite happy with the way it sounded, though I don’t think I did any in depth comparisons with NDS at the time. That would have been a second step as my primary source was, and still is, my turntable. Though I get what you say about the DACs presence potentially being an issue even with the turntable. Alas, it can be a tricky business, and I’ve moved on now.. but perhaps if I ever look at 332/xxx I might take another look as a comparison, though the idea of lugging a vitus (or any other monster integrated amp for that matter) up and down the steps to my house and trying not to put my back out or worse, fills me with dread..
Another advantage to separate boxes, apart from keeping noisy components away from each other, is you can carry them up and down the stairs in separate journeys as well😉
