NAC 82 + HeadLine – No Sound Output

… Like it says. The NAC 82 is new to me and is setup with a NAPSC and two HiCaps. I was previously using the HeadLine with both a NAC 32.5 and a NAC 102: I just plugged the HeadLine into the Tape DIN on the back of either preamp and got output through the HeadLine. Now, I’ve tried sockets 4, 5 and 6 on the back of the NAC 82 and there’s no output on any of them.

I’ve heard that Tape Out may have been muted… the ‘Mute’ button on the ‘Record’ row is switched off so, what are my next steps…?

I take it that you’ve selected the source you want to send to the tape output on those sockets, using the appropriate ‘record’ row button ?

Yes, ‘cd’ and ‘cd’ top and bottom, but I’ve realised that the problem is that I had the HeadLine set to my listening volumes with the other NACs and the output from the NAC 82 is so quiet… I’d say it’s easily only 25% what it was previously at full volume on the HeadLine…

Strange - I would have expected the same output level as the other preamps. Tape out is 75mV. When was the 82 last serviced ?

James – no idea on servicing… it’s a new acquisition for me… although it is going away to be fettled soon…
