Newbie with a couple of questions, can anyone help?
I’ve inherited an NAC 82 but I can’t work out how to switch it off or put it into standby mode , I can’t see any power buttons or switches all.
I think that the unit has a 523 MC phono stage installed, the empty box certainly came with the collection. If the PCBs were removed (is this an easy job?), does the phono input revert to a line in without any additional PCB cards etc?
Any help much appreciated
Welcome to the forum CountBuffalos.
The NAC82 uses two different power supplies; the first is called the NAPSC and should come with the NAC82 - it powers the logic and switching controls of the unit. However, to power the main analogue circuits you need either a suitable Naim power amp with onboard pre-amp supply (NAP90, 110, 120, 140, 150, 160, 180, 200), or better, a dedicated Hicap, pair of Hicaps, or a Supercap.
The NAPSC is always on, and powering the rest on and off is down to the power switch on other the power amp, if that’s the main power source, or the dedicated power supply. There’s no standby function, the pre-amp benefits from being kept warmed up by being left on unless you aren’t planning to use it for a length of time, in which case switch off.
You might want to carefully remove the sleeve cover (be careful not to chip the fascia) to see what daughter boards are fitted. You can remove the 523 boards but to make the phono input a line input you will need to fit link boards (NA526).

That’s really helpful, thanks. So my set up is an NAC82 with the NAPSC. There’s also a HICAP connected as well as an NAP180.
I can’t see any switches on the NAPSC or NAC82, the HICAP and NAP180 can both be switched off.
I think I’ve got my terminology wrong re: line in on source 1. If I were to remove the daughter boards (523s), would this revert the NAC82 to stock? I want to connect my turntable with external MM phono stage to source 1.
There are no on/off switches on the NAPSC or NAC82.
If you remove the 523 daughter boards on input 1, you will need to fit NA526 line level boards (or wire links - see your Naim dealer who may be able to make some up for you) in order to turn this input into a line level input. Alternatively you can use any of the DIN inputs, which are all line level.

Sorry to hijack OP’s thread but didn’t find better place to ask this question.
Like Richard mentions there, NAC82 can be powered via multiple ways BUT can it be powered by Supernait? Snait has 24v rails and I know it can power NAC202 and NAC282.
I’m wondering whether go forward and buy NAC82 but I would then need to assign my Hicap DR with Superline and keep Snait2 only as a poweramp.
Yes, it can power the 82. The SN2 can supply a single 24v rail to the 82 for this purpose.
You’ll need both link plugs in on the 82.
Remove the link plug on the SN2 and connect a SNAIC4 from the SN2 Power Amp In DIN4 socket to the 82 Supply From Power Amp In DIN4 socket.
Set the SN2 into Power Amp mode and you’re done.
