Naim Allae

I’m just about to pick up a nice one owner pair of Allaes in cherry (the best finish imo).

I have a pair of Credos and wondered if I should keep them in dry storage (my loft) as spares as I believe they use the same drivers.

I heard the Scanspeak HF units are long out of production so are the credo units the same?

Also…how much of an upgrade will this likely be? A friend of mine did the same Credo to Allae journey and said it was night and day in sound quality.

It’s always subjective but I’m thought I would ask anyway.

Cheers.

Hi Gaz, Great news! But sorry, I cannot answer your questions.

Care in setting up your new Allaes will repay you. Pay attention to levelling them so that the suspension works properly. Please let us know how they sound.

Best, Chris

Will do Chris. Hopefully as the chap I’m buying them from still has the setting up instructions.

The only thing i would take care, not knowing your location or property construction is the massive swing in temperatures in a loft, could easily be below zero to maybe 40 plus degrees. Could they go in a spare room at yours or a friends?

I could store them in a spare room perhaps. Any thoughts on the drivers? Are they the same?

That explains it! I didn’t recall posting on this thread.

Fellow FFC supporter! Season ticket? Down to 11th now…we must beat Everton and Brentford (assuming City beat us as usual) for any chance of Europe.

Yes and…yes. Next few matches critical.
Apologies for thread diversion.

When are the Allaes arriving?

Picking them up on Friday morning so hopefully I will be getting them hooked up by the afternoon :+1:

Just google ‘Naim Allae manual’ if he doesn’t.

The drivers are essentially the same. It’s the mid/bass drivers that are prized here, made by Naim in the factory. Credos make a great source for spares to keep Allaes, SBls and even SL2s alive. No they won’t be specially selected or matched, but they are otherwise the same drivers. Just don’t use the drivers from Intros. Despite looking very similar they are not the same and not as good…

I did the same upgrade. Credo to Allae also in cherry. The best way for me to describe would be more of everything I liked about the Credos.

Thanks Richard.

It seems a shame but I will simply store the Credos for the mid / bass drivers.

I understand there are alternative Skanspeak HF units available should the originals ever fail.

I now have the Allaes, immaculate condition and I will shortly report on their sound quality :+1:

Yes, it’s a shame that Scanspeak stopped with the old style D2008 and D2010 as the tweeters are invariably the drivers that will need changing much more often than the mid/bass. I believe that the new ones can be used (albeit some speakers will require some minor mods as the terminals are in a different place) although IIRC one member mentioned that the sound was slightly different, and not as good. I guess we’ll find out more as more owners have to move to the new tweeters.

A friend of mine had to get his HF units replaced. I will ask him who did it but apparently he said they actually sound better. When I find out I will post it up :+1:

That sounds much more promising.

Apparently it was a guy at Rayleigh hifi who’s big on naim products. More details to follow when he finds the paperwork! Ooooh the suspense :face_with_peeking_eye::joy:

I am going to set them up this morning so does anyone have a pdf of the original Allae instructions? It’s the only thing missing :face_with_peeking_eye:
