Naim and Bluetooth headphones

I am wondering what the recommendations are for using Bluetooth headphones with a Naim amp.

I have 252. How would I hook up my BT headphones to that amp? What kit would I need and where would it plug in?

This would not be in any way a replacement for my normal audio experience- only occasional late night listening to not disturb the rest of the house. It’s not my intention to buy a headphone amp and dedicated headphone rig.

Looking forward to advice and experiences.

I’ve often wondered how this would sound vs. using the BT-headphone directly from the phone. Never tried though (SN3 here).

Amazon has a range of BT transmitter and receivers. You need an output from your Naim kit to plug in to the BT transmitter. I haven’t tried this but I would guess that the tape output would be suitable. You need a BT transmitter to send the Naim output to the headphones. Lots of Amazon BT dongles are for receiving only. There is a cheap receiver/transmitter on Amazon at the moment if you wanted to try out the concept before looking for something better or longer range.

For best results you need a transmitter that supports the highest quality codec offered by your headphones. What model are they?

Feed the transmitter from your preamp’s tape out.

I use the following setup:

  • My sources (such as my CD5i) are connected to the Nait 5i.
  • The Nait 5i sends its signal out through the tape‑out via RCA.
  • That RCA output feeds the input of my NuPrime Omnia WR‑2 streamer/DAC.
  • The WR‑2 can transmit any incoming signal over Bluetooth aptX at the press of a button.
  • My B&W PX5 headphones connect to the WR‑2 via Bluetooth.

The sound quality makes me very happy.

Upon reading all the very helpful replies to my questions I think I’ll stick with loudspeakers and leave the BT headphones to my iPhone and podcasts.

It all sounds so complex - especially with the transmit/receive/DIN/3.5mm jack configurations and potential failure points. What a faff. I didn’t realise that something so simple would transform into something so complicated.

Hey ho - my 252/350 mono blocks continue to induce smiles through the Kudos 606s so I’ll live with that.
