I love the design and really wanted to like them. However, because of my need to have them very close to a back wall, the evoke’s just didn’t cut it.
To add some necessary balance though, I ended up with the 3 x more expensive Kudos Titan 606 which sound great close to a rear wall and very good indeed at extremely low volumes.
The Titan 606 look pretty special. Def above my budget.
I decided to go with the Evoke 50, and I will say I am (so far) very pleased. I love the presence, and range, also at low volume. I need to be careful with positioning as it can be a little too in favour of low frequencies if not placed with lots of space around them (my better half would love to put them in the corner but concurs they sound more balanced when positioned away from the walls).
The Atom can be combined with e.g. a 200 or 250 power amp as a stepping stone to something better (the slippery slope) should I find the motivation in future. But right now I am enjoying some familiar tunes in a way I’ve not experience prior.
Hi all, I’m currently using atlas hyper 2.0 speaker cables connecting my dynaudio S40s to my naim nova, using screwed on banana plugs on each end.
I’m thinking of investing in some NAC A5 cables and having soldered naim plugs on the amp end of the cables and screwed on banana plugs on the speaker end.
My question is, would this be a worthy upgrade?
Am I likely to notice much difference?
Thanks for your time. Pete
I cannot be of any assistance when it comes to comparing these two cables, however I’d loose the screw-on connectors; please have these soldered or crimped
I would go for properly soldered bananas both ends. You can use Naim right angled plugs for the speakers too, if they are suitable, as it can be preferable for the rather stiff NACA5 to hang straight down. Otherwise, regular Deltron bananas are a tried and tested option.
I’ve just won these for what I think is a good price.
It states that they are professionally soldered on all ends with naim plugs - this is perfect for the amp end but not the speaker end as the speaker’s terminals are too far apart.
I will have to remove the plugs from one end of each cable and apply bananas (not screw ones). I don’t fancy doing either the soldering or crimping myself so will look into whether I can take them somewhere local to get done. Pete
You just need to remove the little plastic case covering the plugs, two screws. That allows you to spread the cable out, so it will fit your speaker. I would then get some of that rubber shrink wrap to cover the exposed wire.
As already mentioned, remove the little black box with a small screwdriver and you can spread the plugs apart to fit. Shrink wrap is a good idea to reduce the risk of shorting them, or insulation tape would do at a push.
Agree. No way that will work out well in the end. I once had a UnitiQute (same power rating as Atom) and tried using Contour S1.4. That was not a good match. That’s when I bought a 250-2 and started back down the separates road.
I have Uniti Star with Dynaudio S40 and not satisfying experience until I moved to separate. My personal view is S40 probably need Nova, SN and upward. Definitely not Star or Atom? Could be just me.
