Naim App Behaviour on MacOS - constant pop up prompt

Been using the Naim app on MacOS and it mostly works fine. However I noticed a strange behaviour that I can’t resolve.

I use multiple virtual desktops, one which I have the Naim app in the foreground. Whenever I go to another desktop to browse the web or work on other things, the Naim app icon on the dock starts to jump. When I return to that desktop, I can see a message prompt on top of the app - however it almost instantly disappears when I get back to that desktop so I can’t fully read what it says or click on the action buttons. It seems to be about some data sharing or something of that sort. It’s quite an annoying behaviour.

Does anyone else experience this and does anyone have any ideas how to resolve this?

Just a quick thought, it’s not a setting in Privacy & Security is it ?

Check local network & bluetooth

I’ve unchecked both share data buttons inside Privacy & Settings to see if it works. Keeping fingers crossed.

Doesn’t solve the issue. Somehow still get prompts to share usage data even after I can set it to off.

The naim app has a setting for data and privacy, does it make a difference if you check or uncheck that setting in the app? ( as opposed to the MacOS data and privacy settings)

Actually, it’s the in app privacy setting that I’ve disabled but that didn’t do anything.

Wasn’t even aware that I could set Naim app privacy settings on MacOS level. Where can I find that? Can’t seem to find it in the Mac OS Settings

There is a system settings → privacy & security → allow applications to access bluetooth option. In that window you will see “Focal and Naim” can be switched off/on. If that is off, I get a pop up on the screen when i start the Naim app, it says “do you want the application Focal & Naim app to accept incoming network connections?” I am guessing a bit that that might be the problem.

I think it’s likely to be that too. The Naim app has nagged about Bluetooth access since Focal launched their Bluetooth-connected headphones. The app assumes that you will want to allow connections and warms you if you have said no, even if you have no Focal Bluetooth kit for it to control.

Checked that particular item (aka the bluetooth setting inside Privacy & Security) and it’s already on. So I guess it doesn’t really solve my problem although it’s good to know about this.

Thanks

Oh my, this is a tricky problem. There is also a local network connection privacy setting, but the NogTheBad has already suggested it. What version of MacOS are you using, app version and generation of Naim product?

Yeah - it’s a tricky problem. Some days it gets real annoying and prompts alot. Other days, it barely prompts at all. No idea why this is so. Sigh.

Mac OS = Tahoe 26.1
App version = 8.0 (14449)
Naim product = Naim Uniti Atom and system = 3.11.0 (5662)

I think you are seeing an issue caused by the fact that the app is not tested on Mac OS. Against the app description is the comment that it is not verified for Mac OS.

Hi Jubei,

your MacOS version is different to mine (Sequoia 15.7.2), and perhaps that is why I cannot see the same problem. Otherwise I have same Naim app version and similar streamer OS (5.3.1 on NSSS333).

Maybe. I had the same issue before but it never got super annoying. The day I created this thread, the prompts were maddeningly frequent. Today I also saw a few, but wasn’t intolerably so.

Just I just have to live with it or minimize the app (which also seems to do the trick) till I can find a solution or until it somehow goes away (with an update either from Naim or Apple - frankly don’t what is causing this).

Thanks for all the suggestions!

This has been the case for me for a long (12 months+) time.

The pop-up asks to “share usage” data. It usually disappears before you can do anything.

I found that regardless of settings regarding privacy/sharing (on/off) this pop-up occurs.

I recall that on rare occasions I managed to make a selection on the pop-up before it disappeared but regardless it comes back thereafter.

I never reported it and just “lived with it”.

This is really good to know as it means I am not the only one who experiences this. Thanks for sharing this info as it is exactly the same as what I experience.
