Hello, I wanted to ask if the Atom’s HDMI Arc function is reliable as I’m thinking about buying an Atom or Qute 2. I have found a Qute 2 with Bluetooth 2016 for 570 euro with shipping.
Well a Qute2 has no HDMI at all.
It’s superb but might not have the features you need and at that price it probably needs a service and new screen… Which might double the price. I use mine via optical off the computer, but I’d want HDMI with ARC and remote passthrough for use with a TV.
Food for thought.
I know it doesn’t have HDMI, but on whether it’s worth the extra cost: I’ve probably had three Qute 1s at home over the years. The display is as good as new and does not need any maintenance and is from 2016
Atom is way better. I have had a Qute, added a 250 then had an Atom and now an Atom HE with a 250. The Qute is a decent little box, but the Atom is genuinely capable of great performance for the price. That is without even considering the better functionality and style.
The Qute makes sound, the Atom does HFi!

Atom was better than super uniti in my experience and way better than qute
You can pick them up used for c£1100, if you can stretch to that it’s worthwhile and of course the qute will need a screen replacing….
Oh, I once had an Atom at home from a friend, I forgot, it had more bass, but was it bloated? Or because it was still new? If the HDMI Arc works reliably, it would be good.
My experience of HDMI (and HDMI Arc) is that it can be a bit hit or miss. If it’s good, great, but change the screen and it can suddenly be rubbish. Not only that but screen or device FW updates can change things for the worse too. Personally, I’d stick to optical s/pdif.
My point is to control the volume using the TV remote control, it’s funny that no one can do it properly, regardless wich manufacturer
The problem perhaps lies in hdmi, both physically and also due to the ridiculously complicated handshaking that was deemed necessary to prevent piracy.
A lot of this comes from the options and modes supported. Some TVs don’t support HDMI, they actually use DVI protocol over HDMI (Sony) or a mixture of DVI in and HDMI ARC out.
I’ve been very lucky with Denon receivers and all TVs but other devices had various issues that took a lot of trial and error with a hacked device to fiddle parameters to find out what the TV was doing wrong.
That said, my success rate with fuss free ARC is about 90%.
