Hello Guys.
I have just purchased the above player, but it has an issue with CD mechanism in that the small plate [platter] the disc sits on is missing.
Would it be possible to fix this problem myself if Naim can supply a new platter?
Goodness gracious! Send it back! Buy a new CD5Si instead.

Thatās in a terrible state, hardly from a āone careful ownerā. Send it back. Donāt even consider paying out to fix it.

How could anyone with a conscience sell this cd player? (Unless they stated exact condition prior to sale).

Thanks for the comments, and i did expect the send it back reactions.
Even when i was delivered today all was not well. The packing tape had come away from the box and the folded cardboard that normally sits on top of the player was underneath the CDP so the remote etc was rolling around the ruddy box ! Luckily, the casing was not damaged at all. Also, the top of the casing looked like itās not been cleaned in a while, so I got a new microfibre cloth soaked it a bit with some light detergent and itās like new now.
To say the least Iām disappointed and itās definitely going back to its original owner.
If I can get my hands on a newish CD5si, Iāll go for that option.

Just been refunded and keep the player. Not sure what to do from here.
Would Naim be able to dit a new platter and service the player ?
Send it in and see, they might be able to use it for spares. Discounted brand new CD5Si with 5yr guarantee available at a Suffolk dealerā¦

Thatās probably the most horrendous picture of gear I have ever seen on this forum. Ferkinā disgusting that someone should try and sell this - unless they explicitly said it was āfor sparesā.

Buying a s/h Naim CD these days are doorstop risky (apart from the very latest models with spares & support still available)

Thats a box of scrap and not worth a penny spent.
Recycle it and buy a new CD5 Si while you still can .

I doubt it. CD mechs dried up years ago and even the ones that Naim had in stock were very patchy as to if they would work at all. So much so that they resorted to cannibalising them to make one working mech. They also donāt service CDPās anymore because of risk of damage in transportation.

Iāve been having a mooch online and I can get hold of an old mechanism from the same player, so Iām going for a fix at this point. Iāve had a look inside the casing and all looks good and surprisingly clean. The outside of the casing is pretty much mint. If I get it up and running Iāll use it via the BNC connection to my NDX2, but Iāll probably run it analogue for HDCD (when needed) which is what I bought it for in the first place.
I think itās worth saving for the sake of Ā£20:00. I hate the idea of just binning it
If all fails Iāll probably get a CD5si

Its a nice player in working condition, indeed if you have a Flatcap PSU too.
Such combo will leave a CD5Si in the dust.

This is exactly what keeps me from buying a used Naim CDP, although I really want it, not least because of nostalgia to get the same sound that ākilledā me 20 years ago.

Not just the platter missing, but the Naim-applied shroud has also been torn off at some point and poorly replaced! Avoid.

Donate it to Naim, assuming they want it. Maybe Class A in Sheffield could use it for spare parts.
