Naim Cd5i-2 Issue

Hi all, I have an issue with my cd5i-2 in that the laser mech reads the contents of the disc (toc) and displays how many tracks on the disc, however when I select to play it doesn’t, it displays track 1 but doesn’t start to play, same thing if I select any other track, the number is displayed bit it doesn’t play. Any help/suggestions greatly appreciated.

Are you able to put the player into soak mode?

There is a soak mode that is used for a basic diagnosis on the philips mech equipped players. Make sure there’s a good clean disc in the drawer, and the drawer is closed. You then press and hold the play button as you switch on the player. It then reads the disc without error correction. Every time it comes across an error it counts from 0 up to 10 at which point it then stops. The idea is that if you know the disc is totally error free then any errors must be down to a possible fault with the player. Cycle power to put the player back in normal mode.

Hi and thanks for the response, I did perform the soak test you have suggested and got a constant flashing zero which i believe suggests everything is ok.

Unfortunately the issue still exists, it’s really odd, the table of contents is displayed immediately when I close the drawer but it won’t play the tracks.

So it plays Ok when in soak mode, but not in normal mode?

Hmmm… one for @NeilS

Actually no, sorry my previous explanation wasn’t clear, when running in soak mode it doesn’t play, just displays a flashing zero.

So it’s not reading a disc, or just no audio output?

DIN/RCA output selection correct?

Regards
Neil.

Hi, powered the cdp off for a few hours, then powered back on and left it on a while before inserting a cd, it seems to be ok now however there is a related issue in that even when it is operating ‘properly’ it always struggles initially to start playing, also when it does start playing the first few seconds of the track is crackly/muffled, any idea what would cause this? TIA
