Hi, this is to ask for others experience with the same problem: NAIM CDX Player, running any CD, start reading one second and goes to Error. Could be the VAM 1205 that is inside to be replaced? From your posts some one adviced to look for VAM 1250 to replace the 1205. Do someone still confirm or has positivelly experienced this? Could the VAM1201 or VAM1202 be used to replace the 1205 or not? Thank you very much for any answer/reply and support!
First thing to check is whether it’s the clamp that’s no longer gripping the discs. You can carefully rotate the rubber loops so they are less squashed and get a better grip on the disc, however it may require a replacement clamp if the rubbers are too squashed or have hardened.
As for the mech, it’s a VAM1205 and AFAIK Naim’s stock of replacements is now exhausted and finding any NOS out there is extremely difficult, and fraught with risk that you may be buying rubbish. Scavenging a secondhand mech from another player could well be the safer option. Either way, it can only be replaced by a genuine VAM1205. The VAM1201 and 1202 cannot be used here. Also the VAM1250 cannot be used here, and is actually much rarer and harder to find than the VAM1205, so even if it could you’d be making the task far more difficult.

Error message was the first sign when my CDX started to die. Good luck finding a replacement. Real ones are rare as hen’s teeth I am afraid.
