Naim DAC HELP!

Sync light on my nDAC not lit, so no sound.

Digital output from my streamer is linked to the Digital input on my nDAC. “Digital BNC" is the output selected in the app.

The correct input channel button is lit on the nDAC.

I get TV output sound if I plug the Optic out from the TV into the nDAC, so the problem is with the connection between the streamer and the nDAC.

As Toyah Wilcox once opined, itth a mythtery to me.

Pleath help.

I would re-make the digital lead connection and power cycle the streamer and the Naim DAC

So, to translate into Numpty, you mean switch off the boxes, unplug the connection cable at both ends, replug the cables, then switch the boxes back on?

That’s it.

No result.

Worth checking you are using the digital output on the ND5XS2. It’s a BNC socket, same as digital input 4 so possible to get it wrong if you’re not looking.

What led up to it not working ?

How are your signal ground switches set?

If it was previously working and now not, something has failed: software, output device, cable or DAC input….

What number input are you using.

It’s easy to get the input number wrong.

It may possibly have something to do with this…?

Floating, both.

I doubt it. As I said, if I plug on the TV optic out onto the nDAC, I get the audio from my speakers. The streamer and the nDAC are connected correctly.

Assuming you don’t have the ND5XS2 connected to the pre-amp (and assuming you don’t have another signal ground connected source such as a Naim CD player connected to the pre-amp) , have you tried setting the signal ground switch of the DAC to chassis?

Agree. Ive been caught with this a few times.

I had a headphone amp connected to the preamp and plugged into a plugboard. The boxes are connected to two different wall outputs with Hydras.

So I just plugged the headphones amp into the streamer with the RCA Phonos and the sync light on the nDAC came on.

Must be an invisible magic circuit.

I suspect there’s some odd earthing issue going on here.

Seems to have settled. Taking the RCA phono feed from the nDAC by flipping the miniscule switch between that and the DIN setting.

Sort of what I do. RCA out from nDac to HPA and din output from nDac to Nait50.

I much prefer a physical manually actuated swich than doing it via a relay and the app.

The only downside is that because the iFI is analogue, if I want to change the volume, I have to get up and walk over to it then go and sit down again.

Life is so cruel.
