Hello,
I’m just fell in love in Naim sound and my current system is CD5x with Flatcap2 and Nait3. I just wonder if I can connect Snaic 5 pin which still availble one slot at Flatcap2 to Nait3? However, I didn’t see Snaic 5 pin at the back of Nait3. Thank you for your help.
In short, unless your NAIT 3 has been previously converted, you can’t.
Once upon a time you could have Naim do a conversion to your NAIT 3 to turn it into a pre-amp. That way you could have it powered either by the internal supply in a suitable Naim power amp such as the NAP90/3 or by a dedicated power supply such as the Flatcap. With the NAIT 3R you could go further having it converted so you could still use the internal power amp but add a dedicated Flatcap for the pre-amp section. It was a long time ago now though and I don’t think the conversions are offered any more (probably wouldn’t make much financial sense anyway).
Thank you for your prompt explanation. I don’t think i’ve conversion but i love nait3 sound. Is it worth to upgrade to supernait 1 or 2? I didn’t opportunity to audit both supernaits. Or just to go to supernait 3 which i think still too expensive and i’m afraid to lost old school nait3 sound.
A Supernait 2 might well be a good option to investigate. It’s a fair bit more sophisticated in sound compared to the NAIT 3 though, so you should try to audition first. However, if you do buy secondhand then demand is such that it’s usually easy to sell on reasonably easily for little or no loss should it not work out for you.
