Naim Forum Album of the Year 2024 -The Poll!

maybe I need to try the new one by the Cure

Smith reckons the winner is the first of a trilogy of albums I saw so that’s 2025 & 2026 sorted

Thanks for collating, it must have taken a goodly amount of time.

Thanks @crispyduck for organising this.

As you say it’s a bit of fun but also I have discovered a couple of albums through peoples recommendations although they didn’t make the final 10.

Imo The Cure is a worthy winner. Of course it’s just a personal opinion but the lyrics & music just resonate with me. I’m a similar age to Robert Smith and identify with a lot of the lyrics on the album.

Yeah, thanks @crispyduck! That is some solid effort going through all the posts by hand.

A pleasure - I find it very enjoyable and I think others do too so definitely worthwhile

I listen to Greatest Hits in the garage and the car occasionally and they ran a top 500 poll - it makes an interesting (if you like that sort of thing) read.

I have it as an excel, sadly that is not allowed to be attached here, which at the very least allows for manipulation to see how many of a specific artists tracks were selected in the top500.

top 10,.
|1|Bohemian Rhapsody|Queen|
|2|Wuthering Heights|Kate Bush|
|3|Bridge Over Troubled Water|Simon & Garfunkel|
|4|Starman|David Bowie|
|5|Let It Be|The Beatles|
|6|Mr Blue Sky|ELO|
|7|Careless Whisper|George Michael|
|8|Born To Run|Bruce Springsteen|
|9|Imagine|John Lennon|
|10|When Doves Cry|Prince|

OK folks - look like everyone now bored which is the signal for the winner to be declared. Any last votes then do it now and the winner will be announced tomorrow!

Last chance!

And the winners are…

In third place with 12% of the votes is Billie Eilish with ‘Hit Me Hard And Soft’

In second place with 14% is Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds with ‘Wild God’

The clear winner with 26% is ‘Songs From A Lost World’ by The Cure!

Thanks for all the participation and here’s to another year of new music

Thanks CD. As usual, none of my favourites made the top 3, but a fun exercise all the same.
It’s great that you do this every year

I have tried the new Cure album several times but just don’t like it. I wanted to like it. I generally like their stuff but this one is not for me. Thank you @crispyduck for organising the poll.

I guess the thread could run forever on that basis. “I like this but I don’t like that.” etc.

FWIW i like 5 of the 10 but of those I think only 1 is the best thing the artist has done. I literally don’t understand the attraction of either the Cure or Cave albums (and I count myself as a fan of the latter) but that’s life innit. Even on the Naim forum not everyone likes Naim and no-one agrees on the best combinations of this or that.

This is a place where people construct an entertaininglylong and utterly futile thread on green versus white lights. Long may it continue… and it undoubtedly will.

Maybe it needs a red light.
