As ever with your recommends @BruceW I shall now have to go back and listen again.
Surely?
My top ten in no particular order…
I’m totally fine with it… Arab Strap
X’s… Cigarettes after Sex
No Hero… Desperate Journalist
Beauty in your wake… Fink
Lifa Lotungard (live) … Heilung
Étrange Hiver… Tom Mcrae
Madra… Newdad
Mo Léan… Róis
and 74 musicians… Thylacine
Sitting Pretty… William the Conqueror
Lifa Lotungard by Hielung is my favourite, it’s all you could want from the group or the genre with no ‘mushrooms’ or ‘Carpathian Mountains’ bits that distracted from their first live album.
Apols if some of these are maybe 2023…in no particular order…
- The Cure : Songs of a Lost World
- PSB : The Last Flight
- Lucy Rose : This aint the way you go out
- Nilufer Yanya : My Method Actor
- Waxahatchee : Tigers Blood
I certainly like it.
Good shout on the Lucy Rose album - I’d forgotten that one.
Keep meaning to listen to that, so, another good reminder…
‘You’re obsessin’, just confess it, put your hands up
It’s obvious, I’m your number one.’
Fifteen superbly crafted lyrical songs with great dance floor vibes, none of which outstay their welcome (the longest track is just 3 1/2 minutes). No other album comes close to the cultural impact it has had in 2024.
The Last Dinner Party - Prelude to Ecstacy
Jamie XX - In Waves
Fred Again - ten days
Zach Bryan - The Great American Bar Scene
Track of the year….The Spark by Kabin Krew
My vote goes to Diamond Jubilee by Cindy Lee
It reminds me of listening to The White Album or Electric Ladyland - sounds nothing like either of them, but in terms of sprawling creativity. It’s a bit hit and miss but if you don’t like a track, don’t worry because something better will be along in a moment
I heard that for the first time today, and it’s wonderful! It’s hard to find – I ended up listening via YouTube, which is never optimal.
Albums of 2024

The Bill Ryder Jones album wins by a country mile imo. It’s a modern day classic

Just re-listening to this following your earlier recommendation and it’s a record of the year for me, as well.
