Naim Fraim Configuration II

Hello all,

I would like to get some advice.
I want to re arrange my set up using Naim fraim.
2x 3 layers and 1x 2 layers
What choices to make. I have already been reading Dan’s journey. My setup is different.

At this moment. No fraim:
Left row top down:
TT
Rega on off unit with Superline beside.
Cd5x

Middle row top down:
252
Ndx2
HCdr (for Cd5x) and TP device for NDX2 beside.

Right row top down:
NAP300PS
SCDR
NAP300

So due the fact that I will miss 1 layer on the right with the fraim, I will need to re arrange things.

I was thinking to put the TP between the racks on the floor and also the hcdr or the rega on/off besides the racks. In that case the NAP300 can stand below the NDX2.
Or should I for now put the NAP300PS and SCDR on the right topshelf.

I am intrested in your insights.
Please not that I would like to keep using the Naim interconnects an Snaics they have the standard length.

I would keep middle rack free from powerlines. So head units of pre and power amp and your source. This is your Brain stack

Are you getting a 555PSDR for NDX2?

Left stack. Turntable /CD stack. Maybe power supplies at bottom for CD player.

Right stack is your Brawn stack
300PS
Supercap
555PS

I would also look at CD player maybe going at the top of your right stack.

With these things it takes alot of time, trial and error.

Hi Dan,

Many thanks.

No 555 for the time being…

Still I need to position the superline. Only option is in that case beside HCDR.

So middle
252
Ndx2
NAP300 (not the 300PS)

Right I only have 2 layers
So:
300PS
SCDR.

Start from there?

This is going to be playing around alot. It’s worthwhile. I got mine all nicely set up with 52 and 135s. Then changed the lot out.

The principals are to keep the big transformers away from the sensitive signal stages. And trying to have cables manageable.

Don’t put Superline next to HCDR. Superline under 252. Move NDX2 to left stack.

You may find cables aren’t long enough. This is where 3 stacks gets complicated. Try:

Left

Turntable
CD5x
NDX2
HiCap DR /TP PS

Middle

252
Superline
300HU

Right

Supercap
300PS

Many thanks again, very appreciated Dan. But with this solution I need another layer on the left😂.
This will not happen for a while.

You might find mate with three stacks and two shelf’s you end up with your nap300 burndies on the floor, try to have a bit of a gap between the two stacks, should help. It’s all good fun

I have empty shelves under 500HU and Zonerippper NAS is under 552 PS. This raises Burndies.

It’s a case of buy the Fraim and get stuck in!

I bought quite a few used Fraimlites and then added cups and balls. Some shelves were picked up very cheaply. Others full cost Full Fraim. All blends in though.

I’ve also got some narrow legs, medium legs and tall legs spare. It took me alongtime and alot of changing to get it right for me. It’s alot of fun tbh!

Yes it will take some time I expect.
I think due lake of space on shelves I will put the hcdr and TP PS on the floor.

Left
TT
Rega on/off beside superline
Cd5x

Middle
252
Ndx2
Nap300 hu

Right
300PS (creating height because of burndy) ( also thxs @Damien0 )
SCDR

And hope that the cables fit.

I ended up doing partial Fraim strips every day after work at times! Was drawing diagrams, working out what to do when upgrading and so on. It all becomes very intuitive and then you know your system inside out as well.

You need to get the kit first up! You may find things work well. What I noticed was when I had Tom Evans Phono Stage The Groove + SRX was that it was sensitive to placement. Superline is as well. But you may be okay. Try to get your HCDR on a shelf and TP. Even if you have sideways.

I now have Klimax Radikal 2 which is shielded and can go anywhere really.

252 likes being on top of Fraim. Keep powerlines away from 252 and Superline. They are your sensitive components.

I also found during a trial a spare shelf or larger shelf from 252 to next source does help the music from 252 ?

I went from a single Fraim stack to “Brains & Brawn” a few years back and viewed it as one of the best moves I ever made.

Left stack

LP12
252
NDX
SCDR

Right stack

Rega Aura
Linn Klimax Radikal 2
NAP 350
NAP 350

Separating the power supplies from the pre amp/source components was a revelation tbh.

I did a full strip down and rebuild the other day and rebuilt from ground up using the guide on this forum and it was very helpful. Helped me tighten things up properly. It does make a difference.

Happy Fraiming. Let us know how you get on.

Hi Toon,

The project has gone well.

See the picture.

Left
RP8
Superline and rega unit
Cd5x
Left on the ground the hcdr.

Middle
252
Ndx
Main unit 300DR
On the floor the TP XPS

Right
300PS
Supercap

This was the best option for me.
Also because of the cables.

I said that I wouldn’t return to two stacks (bloody forum) anyway the 300 benefited in a big way with the brawn on the right.

Left stack
552DR
300DR
DAVE
PULSE

Right stack
552PS
300PS
Empty

I had a feeling that question would arise, not yet, Dan, the 300 is plenty at the moment even though I have been looking to see what’s available

You have only just got it. See how you get on. I am sure it is fabulous! 500DR better bet though.
