I will need to use headphone in the evening so the question is whether to extend the headphone cable or the lead for the headline 2. I will be using headline 2 with the Meze R109 headphones. I already have an upgrade cable for the Meze so not to keen on buying another. I think it’s a copper upgrade for around a couple of hundred Euro but it’s only about three quarters of a meter. The question is therefore do I try to extent the din lead of the headline 2 to around 5-6 metre which is what I need for the moment but not sure what I would need in order to do that or whether to rather purchade a lesser quality headphone cable of around 5 metre which would be around 225 euros i.e the Portento Audio Performer with 6.3mm Jack.
How handy are you with a soldering iron?
I made up an 8-9 metre extension cable - male DIN to female DIN.
Preh DIN connectors and either Mogami or Van Damme (can’t remember which) microphone cable.
Seems to work well. I use an olive Hicap to power whichever of my Headlines is in use (I have both olive and black case versions.)
Long time since I used a Soldering iron over 40 years ago but I thought I did a fine job at the time not recalling exactly what it was…I might just go to a cable shop and ask for the pieces u mentioned and ask if they will just solder it on.
I’ve been thinking about this for a long time too and I’m curious to see where this thread goes.
I really do enjoy my HeadLine 2 but it’s sitting about 2.5 meters away from my seating position and I’ve considered moving it to a side table so I can reach the volume knob. After not nearly enough research, I was under the impression that a longer DIN wasn’t advisable due to increased impedance. Or was it resistance? Or both?.
I’ve been using a Grado headphone extension cable for the time being and find myself often using my Supernait 2 headphone jack simply for the convenience of a remote.
Having the volume control with reach would answer the same question for me.
It would worth putting that question directly to Naim to see what they advise @Stevesky
DG…
I seem to remember that Naim used to make a long SLIC cable (4 or 5 meters, possibly?)
Many moons ago…….
Oh, hang on! I might be thinking about Stagelines!?
But I suppose the principal remains?
I found an old post that I recall reading when I was first looking at this:
https://community.naimaudio.com/t/snaic-cable-length/8115
“…longer SNAIC lengths than 1.25m are not recommended by Naim”.
That’s talking about a SNAIC.
I was talking about a SLIC.
But I was also talking rather early Naim days.
I just seem to recall them making a fairly long one, that’s all….
I spoke to them and it’s not a good idea to extend the din
At least you know what to do now moving forward.
