Naim Internet Radio - Feedback & Requests - Part 19

A repeat of the opening post from Part 1:

At Naim, we understand that while many people use our products to get the best listening experience from their own music collection; sometimes you simply want to put the radio on and let someone else choose. We’ve offered a comprehensive internet radio solution for some time, and we are now delighted to announce the launch of our own in-house internet radio solution.

In a collaboration between XPeri and our team here at Naim, we have brought the internet radio server in-house to be maintained internally, as opposed to relying on a third party as with the previous server. This will improve reliability and has opened up a host of improvements to the service, detailed below:

- A selection of over 45,000 stations worldwide
- Advanced metadata feeds for artist, track and album info on many stations
- Focus on high-quality audio streams
- Improved station categorisation
- High-resolution station artwork
- Automated station scanning
- Station podcasts (where available)

The Focal & Naim app will identify any favourites and presets that should be resaved to use the new server.

These updates are not only improving the internet radio server but improving our streaming capabilities too. TIDAL’s new 24-bit, 192 kHz streaming tier, TIDAL Max, is now available through both the Focal & Naim app and TIDAL Connect.

In a significant update for our Chinese customers, Q-Play is now supported in Naim products. QQ Music is one of the largest music streaming services in China, and users are now able to select their Naim streamer from within the QQ Music app for a seamless listening experience.

Regards,
Naim Audio – Software team

With the launch of Naim’s new Internet Radio service (see above), I’ve created this dedicated thread where information can be posted relating to the service and members can post feedback and requests for the team at HQ.

Examples of how this thread can be used;

  • Announcements on key new stations / station rebrands etc. For example recently a big change in UK for Bauer Media and Global. Scala radio rebrands to Magic Classical and about 16 other new or existing stations changing.
  • request stations that we don’t have.
  • issues with a station. Eg, wrong meta / won’t play and so on.
  • notifications of any downtime on either our system in a given region, or a dependent system like the xperi live radio meta.
  • Search issues. We have the station but its hard to find as needs more tags.
  • feature requests / feedback / general radio gossip

Please ensure posts here are ONLY feedback re. the new Naim radio service or station requests. Thanks.

The latest May Update can be read here:

Hi @Stevesky

This is a query on the radio section of the Naim app, not stations, so hope this location is ok.

A quick couple of questions re: favourites:

— Currently, there’s no list ordering possible, just layout. Is list ordering in the roadmap? Would be very useful imho, especially in CarPlay.

— An option to sync favourites - on the roadmap? I have radio on both iPad and iPhone and currently the favourites section is per device.

And one not-related to favourites. I was wondering if AirPlay might be in consideration? The state of radio across, say, Roon, embedded TuneIn and other disparate providers/apps makes for a very mixed bag of experiences if one has multiple brands of end points. I’m finding the Naim radio experience to be superior to any others so far, the only gap (for me) being able to cast to e.g. an AirPlay capable, non-Naim device.

Many thanks.

Hi @Stevesky

I am being a bit persistent and annoying  The latest Android app still does not show Internet Radio stream quality when browsing the station list. Interested to hear if there is any chance of that being added to the Android app.

Hi @whatu1tme2b

The request was fed back to the apps team. We can’t discuss in public on future features / system changes but I can confirm they have the request.

Hi @mookr

Thanks for your feedback. I’ve fed it back to the manager who heads up that domain.

Internet Radio and Airplay - The directory on various streams are only licensed to Naim/Focal products so we might be infringing distribution licenses intentionally allowing it to be rebroadcast to other devices. Again, will discuss with my colleagues.

Hello. Is it possible to add station Trance Energy Radio from Italy? (trance-energy org)

That’s now added and sync’d to the production servers. Found a 320kbit stream as well.

Thank you for adding the station

Hi all,

Radio Bluesflac, Spain has been down since 19th May. The problem is with the broadcaster, not us and feeds are broken on their website as well.

We’ll update as/when this station comes back online.

Hi all,

Bluesflac returned back yesterday and all playing as expected.

Would love to see audiophile.fm on the list. They make a point of offering hi res and lossless radio from a variety of stations

Hi @melody9999

Audiophile.fm is an online directory site, they don’t host any new stations,

We have similar content under the ‘hidef’ section in the Naim radio directory. Example:

Thanks for responding so quickly Steve - I had not spotted that!

Can you please look into Intense Radio.

The stream has glitches since a couple of days. I talked to them and they upgraded their software last week. We tested different streams and all work well, except the stream used by Naim, but we can’t find out which stream/url it is.

Maybe you can update to the hi-res (flac) stream while you are at it

Hi @Mugo

We already have the flac stream which is:

http://secure.live-streams.nl/flac.flac

i’ve had it playing on a 222 for about 15mins and so far no dropouts + plenty buffered.

There is also a lossy mp3 256kbit stream we have. That is:

http://intenseradio.live-streams.nl:8000/live

Intense host at the same company we use to host Naim radio so I’ll have a chat with them tomorrow to see what the deal is.

Hi Steve,

Is there any chance you could add Pure Lounge Radio please? They are based in The Netherlands & provide a hires stream.

Many thanks in advance.

Thanks for looking into it.

It’s the mp3 stream that is glitchy. It has distorted sound.

I don’t see the flac stream in the radio section of the Naim app. Only the mp3 stream.

I’m running a QB.

Hi @Mugo

I assume that is a Qb1 so on the older platform from 12 years ago.

For now I’ve pushed the lossy stream to AAC which should work around the problem and tomorrow will check what’s going on with Bridgeco and this stream. I suspect sone extension is enabled that is not supported by the old Bridgeco player.

Hi @brittrex

Added. They do have a server side config issue where their buffering is set for low bit rate mp3/aac, but they’re streaming 24/44.1kHz lossless. The streamer compensates by buffering more, but it means it takes 5-6secs before it starts playing.

Station entry below:
