Naim Mu-So 1st gen: AirPlay not working

Hi,

my Mu-So 1st gen refuses to work with Airplay. Interestingly, it switches sources when I select Airplay on my phone, also I can control (e. g. skip tracks or pause) with the touch buttons or the remote. But it simply won‘t give any music output:(

Tried every common „trick“: reboot phone, Mu-So, router. Newest FW on all devices iOS 26.01, 2.1 on Mu-So, Fritz!Box 4690 (8.03). Spotify Connect functionality is working flawlessly, but all other Apps relying on Airplay won‘t…

Any idea what is wrong here?

Thank you and best regards

Luke

I tried to use AirPlay and none of my Naim equipment is found. I have a Mu-so 2g and Atom HE. I’m using iOS 26.0.1. I do see my Apple TV and I can play music to that which I think means it uses AirPlay. The Diagnostics web page on the Mu-so shows “Unable to find auth. chip!” for AirPlay which it didn’t used to.

I restarted my equipment to see if that would help to restore airplay. Unfortunately I seem to have broken my Mu-so so that will be going back to the dealer. I managed to get the Atom to work via airplay eventually after I switched on the setting available in the app under System Settings, Input Settings, Airplay and enabling it. I guess I must have disabled airplay because I never use it. I suspect I must have disabled it on the Mu-so too.

Is it possible that airplay is disabled on your Mu-so?

Hi,

AirPlay is definitely enabled (did not find an option to disable it btw) as it is always available as an option to connect my mobile to. The phone will Connect and functionality to Control my Music app is given (eg. Skip Tracks) but there simply is no sound coming out the Mu-So. On the Weekend I will try wired Internet Connection (currently using Wi-Fi).

I think I have the same issue with my Muso QB. When I play anything from my ipad the QB lights up but there’s no sound. I’ve rebooted and done a reset but with the same result. I am able to play internet radio like Radio Paradise.

Cheers!

I rarely use AirPlay but I just tried with my iPhone 13 running iOS 18.5, Naim app version 7.5.1 and Muso-QB 1 with 2.1.10 firmware installed and it’s working perfectly.

When this happened to ours out of the blue, a search of the forum suggested that something was required in Apple’s ‘My Home’. I added it under speakers and it worked again. I have no idea what My Home is or why it worked but might be worth a try.

The tiny manual you get with the Mu-so 2 says to add the Mu-so to your Apple Home for Airplay 2.

I have never once touched the Apple Home settings on any device, and Airplay works on all of my Naim streamers. So I’m pretty sure you can just ignore it.

I’d never registered it’s existence until Airplay stopped working, then, as suggested somewhere on here, adding the Muso to it solved the no sound via Airplay problem. If you’ve not encountered the issue, that’s great.

I don’t really use Airplay and I don’t think I added my Mu-so to Home when I tried Airplay on first getting my Mu-so a couple of years ago. I came across the manual recently and read it so just mentioning what is written.

I added it to Home a few months ago when I was investigating adding Shortcuts and using voice to control the Mu-so and Airplay is still working.
