NAIM Mu-So 2nd Generation Vibrates

Hi all, bought a NAIM Mu-So 2nd generation speaker a few months back. The speaker has a mild vibration when lightly touching the body of the speaker. (Steel body version). Wondering if anyone else has had this issue with theirs? It happens when in standby mode or playing music. Seems odd to me. My friend has the same speaker (wooden version) but does not have this issue. Any ideas??

If it’s a sort of tingly feeling then it might be from the floating voltage and it being double insulated - I sometimes get this with metal bodied laptops such as the MacBook. Try turning over the figure of eight mains lead connector. It might also sound better too.

I used to run a photography/graphics/pre-press studio in Bangkok and all my Mac laptops used to give me this (not so much other kit)….I always put it down to, presumed, dodgy Thai electrics…!

Does that really work…? I never knew this….

It has worked for me. Certainly with any hifi that has used the figure eight connector I have usually found that one way sounds better than the other (particularly CD players/transports), so always worth trying both ways.

Thanks Richard. May well give that a try next time…
My mu-so gen1 used to ‘tingle’ but a newer gen2 doesn’t, though it is in a different location in the house…

Thanks for the quick reply, Richard. I’m away atm but will try what you suggested when I get back home. Not really sure what you mean by floating voltage and double insulated…sounds technical. Was a bit worried that it might be a fault with the speaker.

I was surprised to hear this, but its true, sounds brilliant as well, 2 people that heard our Muso2 in Germany immediately bought one!

The Muso 2 has small plastic pads underneath - these are easily dislodged so worthwhile to check if any are missing!

It’s not a fault, just some people are more sensitive to it than others. Every iPhone / iPad /MacBook and probably non apple devices do it. I have a Yamaha dvd player that does it, solved by earthing the casework.
Floating in this context means not connected to earth.

Thanks Robert, good to know it’s not a fault. I’ve never noticed it on my apple devices. Maybe next generation they could include earthing on the power supply? Would that solve the issue?
