Apologies if this topic has been asked before, but I am using AirPlay2 from an iMac, IPhone and iPad, I have installed Upnp on the iMac as advised by this forum.
My question is would installing Roon make any difference to accessing my music and be a better if costly bit of software for my needs?
sorry if this seems simplistic but I am very new to streaming music.

Dave
To use Roon you need to set up a Roon Core on your iMac - easy peasy. Then when you run Roon you will need to pick the Muso as your Audio device from the Settings menu, also easy. The answer to your question probably depends on where the music you listen to most resides, and in what form. If it’s MP3s on your iPhone you will connect to the Muso via AirPlay even using Roon, so there’s no real advantage (except Roon’s cataloging & other features). If, however, your main music library is in hi-res on your iMac I think it might well make a sonic difference streaming to the Muso using Roon natively and skipping AirPlay.
If you use Roon, it replaces UPnP with its own protocol for sending music to your Muso. It has many more features than a UPnP server, which you may like, or not, but there is a free trial, so you have nothing to use by trying it. You control it either on your Mac, or via Roon’s app on your iOS or Android device, instead of the Naim app.
What I would say it that what Roon does, it does very well. I find it to be very stable, reliable software, well supported by the developers.
Many thanks for the info, think I will trh Roon on a trial basis and see how things seem…

You have all the hardware you need for Roon (unless you have a very old iMac) so go for the free trial and see what you think.
Many thanks I’ll give it a whirl tomorrow are there any specific settings to be aware of?
There are lots of things you can configure in Roon, but if you just want a reliable way to play music with good sound quality, I would ignore them and just get it up and running. The Roon forum is the place to go for support if you’re not sure how to get it set up.
Thank you for your advice

FYI
I have tried Roon on the free trial and it looks to be interesting, however it will not detect my music from Apple Music, as apparently they are protected files, so back to the Drawing Board and Apple AirPlay and Naim App.

Are these downloads you have purchased, or are they stored on an iOS device from an Apple Music subscription? If it’s the latter, I don’t think Roon will have access to them. Apple will only allow you to use them with their own software.
Yes, it’s a download from an Apple Music Subscription, located on my iMac, which works fine using the Upnp server (Asset),
So to me however good Roon maybe, if it doesn’t do as well or better than my current set up, it seems to be an expense that would be a waste of money, especially if it cannot see the Apple Music which I have, it sees the Music from the Apple Store which seems odd to me, so maybe Apple and Roon need to liaise to make it viable in my case
