Naim Muso 2 - Problems with Streaming

Hi there from Germany.

I´m using the Muso 2 since March 24. Everything was fine.

The problems began two month ago:

At first the Internet radio stopped working. I ignored the problem and streamed programs and music via Apple Airplay. Then I looked into the app. It showed triangles with an exclamation mark beside every station entry. After I researched about the changes I knew I had to re-program my favorites. That did not work, no sound came from the device. Then I updated the software - big mistake:

  • The internet radio doesn´t work anymore. Only when you reset and re-program the device it works pretty restricted until you shut the device down. You can re-programm your favorites, then listen to one for a while, maybe you can also change the favorite once or twice and listen to another station. Maybe alternatively the device freezes and you can’t do anything. Restarting the muso leeds to a blinking favorite indicator for a while, no sound. Maybe, if you’re lucky, the streamer starts playing after 15 minutes. No chance to change the station, the system freezes again. So you start with a new reset procedure … Connecting the muso via wire or wireless lan - it makes no difference.
  • Spotify connect doesn´t work anymore, Spotify can´t find the speaker.
  • Apple Airplay works

I contacted the support last Sunday about the issues but so far I heard nothing.

Maybe someone here has an idea how to go on?

Thanks and greetings:)

Have you updated the firmware? There is a change to a new Naim radio service, vtuner is being retired.
Make sure to use a wired Ethernet connection, your other issues suggest poor WiFi connection.

Welcome to the forum.

Many, many topics are covered on the forum, so always worth a search before contacting support or starting a thread - Muso2 great kit, no problems streaming with mine.

A read of parts of this thread will likely provide all your answers.

Try unplugging it from the mains and leaving it for 10 minutes. Then turn it on again. If it still doesn’t work do a reset using the little hole.

Thank you all for replying:

@ Halibut: Yes, I did that several times … about 15 times …
@ sound-hound: For sure I took a look into those threads and some show in parts the same problem but not in this exiting overwhelming fulness like here, so I decided to open an own thread.
@ Robert: Yes, I did update the firmware. I always used the wired connection. But at one point of my several re-installation-reset procedures the app didn´t recognize the Muso anymore, with WiFi a least the re-installation worked. Since then I switched between both connections again … no success … it doesn´t seem to matter.

Thanks to all of you!!

Have you double checked that both are on the same network? If you have two routers or extenders giving out DHCP numbers, everything is likely to go wrong. 2GHz and 5GHz wifi bands can also cause problems if one is on one and one on the other.

Hey Halibut, thank you for your ideas! Actually the device is connected in the right way to the Fritz!Box. The problems also occur when the Naim is connected via wire. What irritates me is the behaviour. One dealership told me, that there has to be a problem with the streamer section, Airplay would work independently from it. That’s the case obviously.

Greetings:)

And here’s a little update:

All you need is patience. After starting the Muso it needs 15 minutes to play the stream. And when you change the internet-station then all you need is patience: After about 15 minutes the stream selected starts. And the support stays silent, like the Muso in it’s very 15 minutes it needs to it’s own:))

What an unhappy experience.
I’ve had my Nova go “slow” occasionally, but those were always solved by rebooting it; sometimes even just sending it to sleep helped.
(I usually put those on the usual, transient computer issues: low on memory, confused states, or the like - those get reset when restarting.)

If this happens continuously for you, it looks more like a defect, misconfiguration, or something. If the 15 minutes are reliable repeatedly without much variation, this could even hint at a timeout or the like (instead of random slowness).
If AirPlay is reliable and fast, it’s likely not the (local) network connection as such.

The last update brought IPv6 support - so, if there’s issues with this in you network/Fritz!Box, it might be v6 fails and falls back to v4 - for DNS lookups or internet connectivity. (Note: this is pure speculation on my side, looking at what changed on Naim side. Assuming nothing changed in you network/internet setup or the like.)

Do you use any streaming service apart from internet radio on the box? (If those work, an “internet problem” is less likely.)
Any other (cabled) connections changed to/from the Musi?

Thank you all and thank you Phil:))

The problem is solved. I turned off IPV6-Support completely on my Fritz!Box 7490, restarted it and there we are: The system works as before!! So this is a good workaround until Naim improves its firmware.

Thanks to all of you trying to help me, this is obviously a great community.

Greetings:))

Not be be miserable, but this is not acceptable, since the new FW I am rebooting what was a perfectly reliable Muso2 several times a day as we get a blank screen on the app when trying to use it

Glad my hunch was of use. (And some of my tech-guessing is still working.)

BTW - I have IPv6 enabled on my own Fritz!Box (7583, but should be a very similar 7.5x firmware, I guess) and my internet provider is offering both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses, so it’s not a per-se problem with the Naim update and IPv6 support.

If I should guess, I could imagine something is/was not correctly setup in your IPv6 network (like IPv6 DNS missing, or maybe a local IPv6 network without IPv6 support from provider, …), and then the Naim streamer is slow to switch from IPv6 to IPv4. So it could possibly act in a more faster/robust way here, no idea.
So, if you have fun and time, you could either trouble shoot your network yourself, or let Naim support know about the problem, so they could check improvements.
(And it’s always nice to be able to ponder this, when there’s a decent work around in place.)
