Mayware DIN RCA. Analogue seduction sell them for example. They call them “ Kontak Audio 5 Pin Din to 2 RCA Phono Adaptor these days but it is Mayware.
Hi Bj, what I suggested earlier is, you could search for Naim Audio Full Line Manual and you will learn about all the basics, ports and DIN cables, it helped a lot when I was new to Naim.
DIN port is defo sounding better within Naim’s world. As PerF suggested a connector literally defeats the purpose tho. You won’t regret getting a genuine Naim’s RCA (from your CD source) to DIN (Nait 1) cable, it sounds really good.

Hi juliushi! I will do what you suggested though I don’t really need a lot of convincing that using genuine Naim RCA to DIN cables is the best way forward. Unfortunately I spent the whole day searching yesterday and didn’t really find anything so I may have to lower my sights a bit.
I’d still like to understand what the “chrome bumper manual” is though?

Plenty of good RCA/DIN5 interconnects on the market.
I have a few in the drawer used through the years with various Naim setups, included both expensive and cost effective cables.
Hi Everyone! Just wanted to thank you all for your support and bring you up to date on the current situation. Also wanted to point out that the question in my original post “can anyone recommend a reasonably price DIN to RCA connector” really should have read “can anyone recommend a reasonably price DIN to RCA cable”. I don’t think an adaptor would help me in the case of the tape socket where I want to use it both for input and output.
Anyway, I spent most of yesterday looking for Naim or Chord Chrysalis cables with little success. My primary need at the moment is for a cable that allows me to use both tape input and output to RCA connected devices. That will open up the CD player and the headphone amp for me.
I should point out that when I was given the Nait 1 I was told that it probably hadn’t been used for 10 years or more. At the moment I only know that the phono input is working very well but haven’t been able to get anything out of the tape or tuner inputs because I don’t have the right cable.
So, as it is proving so difficult to find a decent “high end” cable I may have to be less ambitious initially and get a cheaper 5 pin DIN ↔ 4 x RCA cable just so that I can establish that the amp is working properly. Once that’s done I can continue looking for a decent Naim or Chord Chrysalis cable.
So does anyone have any ideas about a ‘half decent’ 5 pin DIN to 4 x RCA cable?
I’ve just had a look and see there are plenty of cheap 4 x RCA Phono - DIN5 interconnects available in the usual online places. Any one of them should help you at least get up and running and establish that the amp is working OK.

Hi robert_h! Thanks for your interest! The thing that I was claiming was proving “so difficult” was actually finding ‘high end’ cables like Naim or Chord Chrysalis. I agree finding cables like this is ‘Incredibly easy’ now that I’ve lowered my expectations.
I wouldn’t expect miracles with Chrysalis (or from any other i/c for that matter), they are very old and not really on level with todays Chord offerings.
I know as I’ve tried myself.
For testing if amp works, I’d not spend more than €100-150, often good enough average cables - Mogami, Gotham, Mark Grant, Van Damme, Flashback etc..
Nait 1 is not very refined and may need service, a very revealing cable might not benefit the cost involved.
I suspect you won’t tell the difference between something made by lynx and a chord cable; these are studio quality made from rean or neutrik plugs and klotz or belden cables, or similar. I have both and they are indistinguishable.

Interesting point you raise that the Nait 1 could need a service! Is there much support out there for service/repair to amps of this vintage?

If I do run into problems I was wondering how much support there is out there for something of the Nait 1’s vintage?
The NAIT is still supported by the factory and can be serviced; just arrange it through your Naim dealer. There’s also Darran at Class A who is authorised by Naim to service Naim kit and only uses part kits supplied by Naim - he also might work out to be a little more affordable too.

I have a flashback cable 3.5mm jack to 5pin din,
(I think this is a very good cable, )
Can’t really go wrong at that price,
When I brought mine I was told the guy that use to make them was a naim enthusiast,

Flashback cables were great value. Sadly they ceased production when the owner passed away, but they are fine for what they cost. I do think the genuine Naim cables are better, but the Flashback will get you up and running so you can contemplate at your leisure whether or not to buy a genuine Naim or Chord cable if one crops up on eBay.
