Of course not but the dongle offers perhaps the very best rendition of any particular file as possible
As a current ND5XS user from new if you do intend to get one make sure it has had the screen replaced by a dealer. There are DIY options available but the installation would depend on the proficiency of the user to do the replacement and could end up causing more issues. Also, if you are using wireless, which I don’t think you will be, then if you don’t mind rebooting it once or twice a week as it drops off the wireless network then fine too.
Current PX value on my unit with a failed screen is probably in the low hundred of pounds at best.
Just adding in an option… I use my ND5XS as a DAC from my iPad and MacBook Pro using a SMSL PO100 Pro USB C to SPDIF box. Works superbly. Means I can stream Apple Music, which comes free with my phone contract, and also play BBC Sounds etc which is easier to navigate on the laptop. Even a ND5 XS with a dead screen can work like this (assuming the digital inputs are not turned off). Can grab a bargain.
