Naim Olive Upgrade

52/ Supercap/135s is competitive imho with 252/SC/300DR. Both are brilliant.

What a great system- 01/cds2/52/135s
Exception: xpsdr so not 100% Olive. Very nice upgrade to cds2

I had an 82 with two Hi Caps and a pair of 135’s

I sold the 82 and Hi Caps and replaced them with a 52 and Supercap

The increase in sound quality was amazing !

I have Nac52/Supercap olive with Nap300 non dr and I’m satisfied and have no wish to upgrade/downgrade.

So just a question for the wise folks here.
I received my new to me Nap 180 and Hicap (both Olive), turned on and the hicap does not have the light up.
So I have it in the 12 o clock position, there is the faintest of hums. Not really audible. I guess it could be a fuse or resistor on the LCD board?? Thoughts???
They will be going to Class A when I can make an available slot for service.
But the sound quality is sublime, very, very happy…

Naim toroidal transformers in their power supplies can hum and if you’re unlucky they buzz. The main reason for hum is caused by DC offset. Some of us on here use DC blockers and power conditioners to reduce the hum of power supplies.

Naim don’t recommend them though.

If it doesn’t bother you then it’s not an issue. If you’re having it serviced the logo light should be fixed and if there is anything else wrong it will be picked up.

Quick question for olive owners. Did the NAC 72 come with 322 / 323 phono cards or was there a newer version? I know the older cards fit and work but just checking they were the best version available.

Yes the 72 could have either the 323 MC or 322 MM cards, but also you could fit the 326 straight through cards if wanted for say a CD player or streamer. Assume you have two BNC inputs on the back of the 72.

Hi Stew,
Thanks for coming back to me. I went ahead with the 72 so all good thanks. Yes, mine has two BNC so will get one set converted to RCA when I get it serviced.

Unless you really have a need for bnc, why not get both changed to rca.
One of my 3 72s is one of the early ones with originally 2 sets of bnc.
Personally i prefer these early ones as you can have 2 inputs with rca plus the 3 inputs that are din.

That’s what I did for my NAC 82 when class A serviced it, they changed it to RCA.

Fair point but I only use vinyl so only need one input. Plus, having one of each might make it easier to sell in future.

Naim use BNC’s for a reason…change to BNC’s on the tonearm cable
and you will get a better sound.

Do you use a Linn arm cable?

I have had Linn tonearm cables upgraded with BNC’s.
Right now I use a Naim Prefix,so only DIN connectors.
