also, I’ve always wondered if it’s ok to stack the old Naim boxes on top of each other like in that pic. Forgive my lack of the classic Naim knowledge. Whenever I search, I always find info about how it’s best not to and use a rack, but never discovered if, while not the most ideal, it’s still safe and maybe the norm for most people.

I’ve had the rubber feet on the slimline olive boxes “go soft” after several years and leave sticky black marks on the box below, or indeed on the light coloured lounge carpet…….

I was an olive 72/hc user for more than 30 years. I did listen to the 102 at the dealership. My impression then was more positive than some on this stream. I thought it was more precise than the 72. However when push came to shove i just loved how the 72 did things and stuck with it. I still think the 102 is a good option if you can get a good deal.

I love 72, but after hearing 52 and knowing how much signal was masked for musicality I can’t go back to it. 52 playing the full signal yet very musical, quite an achievement

It’s best to have them far apart ,that’s one of the big advantages with a separate Preamp vs integrated amplifiers.

The 52/135 is no big nait 
. It combines all strength Olive has - love it. The 72 is one of these naim magic boxes. If I have to choose a small olive system, 72/140 would be my take.

Yes it was said there is no low voltage supply in it and that’s why.

Agreed with Igel. When I first had my vintage Naim I also thought it was common way to stack the boxes like the advertisements, but then I found it kills the depth and soundstage, some frequencies feel like enhanced and some are weakened, just feel like things got ‘overlapped’. Also in the manual it’s best to avoid stacking.

Had 135’s decades ago with a 72/Hicap and a pair of Harbeth HLP3ES monitors. Should never have sold them
