I’ m afraid not, 72/HC/140 would be exchanged for 82/HC single or dual/250 at Music For Life, he only accept and sell the whole combo because they’ll have matching fascias. However at the moment, i have the other 72 lent to me by the other Linn dealer with correct daughter boards to try.
Is there a chance to find 724 boards or not? If so, i’d stick with this set up
I would go for a Nac 82 a much more musical preamp and got a proper Mute function and remote.
Agreed. I also wouldn’t care if it was early or late, they were all good. I know the perceived wisdom is to buy a Pots 8, but before my Pots 8 i had a Pots 5 and it was a peach.
Having had many Nac 82’s,the Pot 8 remove some of the boogie factor, better to upgrade with a Napsc 2,in my opinion.
Interesting you should say that, as boogie is what my Pots 5 82 did, in fact i’m not sure it wasn’t even a pots3. Either way it was a really fun amp, and i regret selling it.

Agree that’s why I wrote" the Pot 8 remove some of the boogie factor"
Yes and i was agreeing. My Pots 8 is much more civilised in a Nac52 kind of way, and i miss the earlier sound.
Exactly what I have found .The best Nac 82 I have had was a Pot 4.
Definetely i’ll keep the 72/HC/140. Mister Trebbi of Music For Life will give me the missing boards, even if he claims that links may be more musical. At a later stage will also get the Olive 82/HC/250.
I’m tempted to sell the Active system driving IBLs with 202/HC dr/2x200. It’s odd that at the moment i’m driving them with CB 62/HC/250 and find it more engaging, open and musical.
Have you tried the CB 62 instead of the Nac 202 in the active system,I have found that a CB Preamp is much more fun than the Nac 202.
Not yet, not so keen to mix different series. I have two CB 250 to try, albeit of different vintage a Mint '88 one and and early 80s with alu. fascia that probably needs service
I do like active systems and I’m listening to one right now, but in my experience passive always wins in terms of absolute musical understanding. However, preamp comes first so Igel’s suggestion is worth checking out first.
For me the passive filter stands in the way of musical understanding,I even sold my 500 DR because I prefer active with lesser amps.
I like the fluidity of active (I do sense the passive crossover getting in the way, dampening the dynamics and flow, etc.) but at the same time I feel less moved by the song being played - although I might prefer active on the odd track.
My thinking is that passive better preserves the signal integrity for longer within the component chain, even though at the end of the chain you have a horrible speaker crossover to get past, so source first in effect.
Goes to show the importance of trusting our own ears as we’re all slightly (or not so slightly) different, even us here that enjoy Naim.
Is double Hicap really mandatory with 82? At this stage with little more effort, a SC is not better ?
Theorically an active system is always the winner. However in the context of 202/HCdr/2x200 vs 62/HC/250 CB, the former Is a bit cold and aseptic. I don’t know whether is Snaxo set up issue or the famous snaic 4 Active Leads that i don’t have e none of my dealers know about. Source is CDX2-2 for both system, in the active one there is also XPS dr.
Supercap is much better than two Hicaps, when I have compared.
Active leads is a must have.
Of course, better to stick with one for the moment and go for 52/SC whenever a nice one pops at my dealers or on the market
