Naim Olive

I also really like Hamburg. I have been there several times for business reasons. Nowadays, we go on holiday to Sylt once every year (Click here), usually with a detour to Hamburg.

Need to my late 2001 ones back in (second system will live them …)

Got this 62/90 yesterday from a friend, ‘90 vintage, very close serial numbers. They have been recently serviced by LASA. After a short try today, they seemed more open vs 72/140 perhaps, albeiit not so energetic like the 140, either CB or Olive

Which model is that, please?

By the look of it, either a CD2 or CDX. Both look pretty much the same from the front (aside from around the display window - too dark to see on this photo). Inside the tray is a little different as the CD2 used either a CDM9 PRO or CDM9, against the CDX’s VAM1205.

Thanks Richard.

It’s a CDX

Lovely. It gets even better if you give it an XPS power supply (olive naturally).

I know, i know, please don’t unleash the itch. This will be my fifth CD player after the 555 and 3x CDX2. A famous dealer in UK has one btw.

What’s that saying? “You can never have enough sweaters or pieces of audio gear.”

Hope you enjoy your Hi-Fi adventure!! :+1:

I really enjoy the older chrome bumper and olive Naim gear. There’s just something about the Holden Fisher transformers in the earlier Naim equipment that sounds right. My Nait 2 and recently purchased Nait 50 are a joy to use too, but I also enjoyed my CB Nac 42.5/Hicap/Nap 110 as well!

Exactly Jimmy. I spent so much time only to look for full chain CDPS/52PS/135 with H&F transformers. Done that and extremely happy.

Only pity is, my CDPS is partly St Ives (smaller one) and H&F (larger, analog one). Don’t think the sounds affected much but for the sake of perfection… :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

The sound difference is probably negligible. Your gear is certainly first rate! I had a few pairs of chrome bumper NAP 135’s back in the early 1990’s and they really were impressive. I replaced my CB NAP 250 (which I liked very much) with the 135’s and the difference was significant. They shared a similar signature, since the 135’s were for all intents and purposes a mono version of the 250.

But the 135’s had much more of a grip on my speakers (15 ohm Rogers LS3/5’s).

PR&T in spades and just a greater sense of dynamics and realism with the musical source; which at the time was a Rega P3. I’m sorry that I ever sold them, and at some point in the future I may add another pair of chrome bumper 135’s to rotate with the NAP 110 in my 42.5/Hicap system.

And your CB collection is still on duty?

So you sold the 135s and use a 110 instead? Are you still using Rega P3? I am asking since i have a P3 -24 now with ND7, and a LP 12 Akito3 Kristal with a pseudo Radikal but probably i still prefer the Rega

I sold my 135’s back in the mid 1990’s. In 1998 I sold off all of my audio gear and bought a Bose Wave radio which served as my only audio system until 2002, at which time I purchased a Linn Classik music system with a pair of Linn Kan V bookshelf speakers.

In the late 2000’s I bought a Naim Nac 42.5/ Nap 110 and a short time later a Hicap. The Nap 110 broke down soon after and has been stored ever since. I use the 42.5/Hicap to run some Quicksilver and Antique Sound Lab tube monoblocks. The 42.5/Hicap/110 cosmetics are near mint. The 110 will eventually be restored and used with the 42.5/Hicap as part of a vintage system with my Naim CDi and a few pairs of vintage bookshelf speakers including the Linn Kan I and KEF Reference Series Model 101 speakers.

At some point I would like to purchase a CB pair of 135 monoblocks to alternate with the 110.

I stream music about 90% of the time out of convenience, but the sound quality is so good that I no longer find the need to listen to analogue the way that I once did. As such, using the turntable, tuners and tape decks has become more of a novelty than anything else, however I seriously doubt that I would ever sell them.

I do miss my Naim tuners (CB NAT 101/snaps, Olive NAT 01, NAT 02, NAT 03) though. With a live studio broadcast (the 01 and 02 in particular) they were as good sounding as any source I’ve ever used.

As for turntables I have two: A mid 1990’s Rega Planar 2 which needs a new phono cartridge and a mid 1980’s SYSTEMDEK IIX which I’ve owned since the late 2000’s. The bearings in the old Profile tonearm are worn so I purchased a NOS Jelco SA-370H oil damped tonearm to replace the Profile with.

I have mostly vintage gear so in the interest of greater reliability, for the first time in twenty years I decided to purchase new amplification: A Naim Nait 50 and an Audio by Van Alstine Vision RB preamplifier and NP-1 power amplifier. So now I’m set for another 20 years. lol
