I’ve got a prefix in the LP12 but the cable is too short to reach the aux2 on the supernait. Figure I have 3 options (modifying the prefix cable itself is not an option)
for option3 if I buy an early hicap (not 2 or DR) for the prefix I’m assuming this would be a step down from the DR sourced power on the aux2 socket?
I’d rule out the first two options as Snaics are optimised at their standard length. As to Hicaps, you may find that a dedicated older Hicap is better, but it’s a case of trying it, which may not be practical. I’d add an option 4; move the Linn and Supernait closer together so the lead reaches.
I agree with HH, move the SN closer if you can. I used one on the bottom shelf of my rack and it just reached. Apparently you can give the cable some extra reach by modifying where it is routed in the LP12,

No rack, unfortunately it’s from the righthand side of the LP12 to the left side of the SN so it’s about 30cm short so 7cm won’t make any difference.
It works if I swap the LP12 and SN around but that looks weird
Any Hicap is a big step up from Aux 2.
You have just solved your problem; swap them over and then close your eyes.
Ideally DR with DR, though.
Aux 2 on a Supercap-powered 282 is better than HiCap, but a very different setup.
The Prefix is not voiced with DR…
Just swap them round. It will put the cartridge further from the speaker too. There is no reason it would look weird. It may look better.
Olive Supercap all day long. Just that’s where prefix is at its best.
I have found that powered by NAC52 to be better then HiCap

It’s a Supernait 3 that the Prefix is going to be connected to.
Honestly, if you can get some naim balls and cups and some float glass or the like of appropriate size and put them under your boxes, it’s a massive upgrade
Obvs! Any old HiCap might do, but if we allow the SN3 to have DR DNA, then a HiCap DR would be the optimal match, methinks. Upgrading from olive HiCap to HiCap DR was hugely rewarding on my Prefix.
I prefer old Hicaps over Hicap DR on Prefix.
100% do not agree. Dr is voiced so different. Prefix are from an era of yesterday and very good in its own right. I personally have never heard a mixed DR with none DR gel to me it’s laughable to match up. Let’s focus on music and not spec crap. When you get 100% DR that works and only then imo. Let’s face it prefix is music and DR is hifi end of…..

Yes I agree I’d rather have the cart in the middle than beside the speaker and the benefit of unmolested signal paths and wiring.
That’s okay R; we’re all wired differently. I can only speak from my experience and with a certain amount of celestial authority. Glad we agree about 100% DR working well.
