Naim radio as separate device in the Naim app

This morning I saw for the first time Naim radio as separate device in the Naim app.

Does anybody know what this means? Do we have to pay extra to keep access to the radio stations?

It’s an internet radio player in your phone. It’s free. You don’t pay anything. But you do need to create a focal/Naim account and sign in to it.

Just discovered it as well. Nice! And thank you Naim, obviously.

I’m going to test it later when I go for a walk

Hi all,

This is Naim’s attempt to break you away from your Naim hifi’s and get you out the house :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

The built in radio player:

  • Allows usage on BT headphones so can take your radio listening experience on the go.
  • The app now supports Carplay and Android equiv. On suitably enabled vehicles the Naim radio system and app follows you into the car.

One of the key benefits is that we aim to use the highest quality streams available, which of course can eat through the data, but there are many other alternative solutions for low bit rate radio streaming.

As an extra bonus for those with Apple watches the app now interacts with that, which is all very cool if that is your thing.

Best

Steve

Why the need to create an account?

Is there any personal (or personalised) data being collected? And if so, for what purpose?

I’m happy to create an account, but I prefer to jump in eyes open knowing what is happening. Although I will say that it doesn’t seem functionally necessary for the operation of such a product.

Its a nice thing Steve, useful in the car even for those of us without a Naim streamer. Thanks. :+1:

This new Naim v8 release is brilliant, I’ve struggled for an age with a poor DAB signal in my campervan, I can now listen to BBC Radio 5 without interruption :+1:

Love the sound quality compared to DAB. An immediate and noticeable uplift. One small frustration with the CarPlay integration is that on my BMW everything has to be done through the touchscreen. With the Roon Arc app the iDrive controller can be used as well which is much safer on the go.

Sorry I don’t get how to stream from the naim app to another device say my AirPods Pro. What do I need to do?

Assuming you have Naim app on your iPhone and AirPods synced with phone, then same as any Music app, press play and enjoy😀

But where is the device selector like in Qobuz etc?

I am wondering the same or does this option appear only after creating the account?

Now I got it. One needs to go to the device list (by tapping the the name on the top) but the account is still needed in order to use the new feature.

Super unclear feature! Thanks :+1:

You can use Airplay or Bluetooth to play from the Naim iRadio service in the Naim app. I don’t have Airpods, but I believe they use Bluetooth so presumably that would work.

Does the new app show current track information in the radio device like on, for example, a Mu-so?

I tried to sign in with my Naim acct username and password
Didn’t work
So I need to create a new account?

I like the idea of a stand alone radio Naim app. But the UI changes look cheap and certainly not something I would associate with Naim. Any chance we can have the option to select classic UI in future versions ? I find myself using the radio apps via airplay instead. I know it’s subjective and some people may like the latest version it’s just not for me.

I had the same problem even though I could log in to the forum. After the reset I was able to login successfully.

What reset?
