Take out the resonator and the two small capacitors near it then solder in the new resonator connecting the middle wire (the original resonator is two wire) into one of the holes that was the junction of the two small capacitors.
Once you have the resonator it is an easy repair.
Well done, although note that DIY discussion falls outside of forum AUP.
By the way it’s an i-Com handset. It was used for the entry-level 5i equipment and only used by Naim because although there was absolutely no budget left for a remote handset, it was felt that some kind of handset had to be included with the amp and CD player. Needless to say, it was a very cheap and a bit nasty, the idea I suppose was that it would get you going but if you wanted a decent remote then you could pay extra for a proper Narcom. We used to replace them all the time until all stocks were finally exhausted, but we’d recommend a Narcom as a better replacement every time.
My Narcom keeps acting up. The volume buttons, which are the only ones I use, work only occasionally. Is it reparable, or do I have to spring for another one?
I have no idea what their facilitates are but recall sending the remote control to them in the mail. Once received an email is sent agreeing to proceed with repair or not. It’s explained on their website. You can’t physically take anything to them as far as I know.
I have a dead Narcom, 4 that really doesn’t want to come apart, even after the screws are removed and a 5 that tries to fall in two each time it hits the tiled floor. I’ve resorted to the R-com for daily use, though it may be more of a danger to the tiles than the other way around, in order to save my last working Narcom for programming the inputs.
It would be nice if the 4 were repairable.
